Title: Engine bay cleaning
Post by: 51M0N on 20 May 2011, 09:42:51
I've seen some very clean bays on here and wondered what product you use to get all the grease, oil off etc especially on the hoses.

I have some Autoglym machine and engine degreaser and some tins of foam degreaser.

I have read a few threads and people seem to use baby oil on the pipes and air box once cleaned.  :)

About the only thing it's good for ....  other than removing sticky stuff.

Totally over-rated product ... it's a WATER DISPERSANT (WD !!) not a lubricant !!

If you want a decent product for lubrication and protection get some "Ambersil 40+" .... now that stuff really works .. :)

Gunk and elbow grease!  :y

I use a combo of baby oil and cheap silicon spray for the final shine...

I've tried various sorts of stuff.. all are expensive.. wd40 is cheapo and mostly adequate for engine cleaning.. and for lubrication , gold eagle have some rust removers.. thats fine imo..

Engine degreaser/jizer/gunk/APC etc to clean... then something like G303 to finish.

Personally id stay away from baby oil/silicone spray/ engine "dressing" etc as they all make everything look shiny, which looks nasty!.. you want a clean bay not a shiny one  :y they'll also attract more dust and crap so look make it look dirtier quicker.

BM1 (used in Moto-X) works first time, every time.
Don't leave it on for too long though, because it will remove the paint.
