Title: Do cars have a soul?
Post by: Admin on 08 July 2007, 16:30:11
Serious (well sort of) question?  ;)

I have had a few exepriences that me sure they do!

The MV6 that the missus drive. That REALLY doesn't want to be parted from her!
My last attempt to get it into my ownership permanently ended with me writing off the bl**dy replacement I bought her so I had to give her the MV6 back!

Look at Mr McB's LPG project car. Every time he gets close to having it sorted, something happens.
The latest episode being his back!
That car is determined to be as cantankerous as its owner!  ;D

I remember a phillosphical/theological discussion on faith and car ownership a while back and this quote from a very smart friend sticks in my mind...

"If you believe in God, then he exists.
If you believe your car has a soul, then it does.
The soul of the car exists somewhere between you and the car.
Only you percieve it, and to percieve it you must believe in it.
But it couldn't exist without the car, and you couldn't percieve it without the car.
So yes, your car has a soul!" ;)

aLTHOUGH IN BED, i HAVE LAPTOP.

Oh shit, capslock....

right. sorry for speeling/ bit dopey

OK, my project car is just a barsteward. No two ways about it. Has been toruble from the off and I expect I will probably end up killing the car.

Mrs Laidbacks MV6? Since mark killed the butt flashing homer, you havfe been in trouble. yellow peril had 'I am going to scare the bejeezus out of you' written all over it. If I am not mistaken, the first parting of le-Mv6 was for the Saab. That dies a few weeks later, then the Fiat. Oh yes, mentioned already, then the new one. Exhaust nightmare.

Yes cars have soul. The sould of my foot right up there jackside. >:(

Theres something in what you have said there mate, mine knows when to play up, whilst I was looking around for a 3.2 I am sure that miggy knew she was about to be traded in.
Front head light bulb blew, how often do they blow?
Engine emissions light kept coming on
I had a rear flat one morning before going to work
The front drivers seat motor for height adjustment failed.
Had to buy a new battery as the other was stuffed.

Since I have stopped looking for a new miggy everything is fine.

 :o :o :o

The trick is to suprise them!

Give any indication you are contemplating a trade in and you are  :-Xed!

Cars definitely have souls in some way shape or form.

Not in any sentient kind of way you understand, but there's definitely some sort of 'lifeforce' coarsing through them. It fits with my theories on 'life the universe and everything'. I could get deep and get into it, but I'll save boring you to tears.

Suffice it to say that I believe our souls are a sort of electromagnetic signature that's developed through our lives and experiences and a car's no different. Although it's not self motivated, it inherits 'character' from it's keepers.

A soul no.....mannerisms yes....but us engineers know this is only due to 'manufacturing tolerances'

:-/I've had many old and newer cars over the years. I'm not religious, do'nt believe in life after death.
I'm what i call a realist, Darwin got it right despite revoking his theory later. However many years ago i had an Austin 1300GT. Nothing ever happened but i always felt.... i dunno what to call it, but something wierd even stood next to it.
When i look back it makes me question my present cynical beliefs. :-[

Don't know why but. That just threw up a memory of John Cleese thrashing his with a branch from a tree in "Fawlty Towers".  ;D ;D ;D ;D

do cars have a soul....hmmm a deep question!!!!

I believe that people form bonds with iteems like cars, especially if you have had the car for a long time, have travelled a long distance or it has seen you through one of lifes challenges.....

In my opinion my miggy has been instrumental in the sucsess of my business, it has not let me down, has always got me where i needed to go and in the great scheme of things has not cost me a great deal of money to run.

An engineer would say that a lot of what i have just said is because i have a strict mantainence regieme and everything has been dealt with when required, but that wouldn't explain why the radio would not work for a day or so when the Aux belt tensioner started to make a rumbling noise and then started to work again for no reason!!

Who knows, i believe that part of us stays with the car when it gains a new owner

I would have thought that one made the scrappy, rather than being passed on ;D
