Some of you may remember i had a new clutch fitted last year by Mr clutch and it has been nothing but trouble since, a very persistent judder, even after a warrenty replacement. Anyways I set off down the road yesterday it was slipping like hell. Not the first time it's done this, when it had done before I'd put it down to a diesel leak contaminating the clutch face.
So when I got home, I ran the car up on the skids to look for any offending fluids, there were none.
So it's spanner time. Gearbox off. The clutch looks ok, bit of glazing but other than the fact that mr clutch used a cheap crap copy clutch I am clueless!! My line of thought is replace it with a valeo or something. Matey reckons the judder may of been because the pressure plate was bolted tight with airgun, =torqued up uneven=cause of judder.
Suggestions welcome, besides a visit to mr clutch late at night with a stolen 4x4 ;-) lol

Air it the system ?
Mine was done 2 year ago.
A right bitch to bleed :'( :'(

how's the flywheel looking ?,its a dual mass jobbie isn't it

I don't think it's that, the pedal felt old and notchy still after I got it back the first time, when it had another one fitted on warrenty it miraculously felt 'new' I figured they didn't actually bother to change the slave cylinder bearing thing the first time, as apparently they have been on watchdog before for pulling such tricks. It was also suggested on here that they didn't properly bleed it before, but if that was the case then it feels fine now. Anyhows it'll be bled properly this time round coz we're doing it ;) lol
As for the flywheel I'm sure my mate who's helping (doing) knows what's what, but what to I need to look for with the dual mass?? A bit strange that with the old clutch it was fine but within 2 miles of the shop it was warped and juddery?? :-?

had this before with refurbished clutch plates!!! drives you nuts
only thing that cures it is a proper replacement from a quality supplier and a known make,
to check the fywheel isnt so easy but as you say if it wasnt buggered before then it shouldnt be now, however things to look for when dmf is faulty is a clack or bang when starting,
judder when first tsaking up drive, strange vibration when ticking over or simetimes at a certain point in the rev range a clatter at idle, and a kind of surge when you change gear.
if you have the box off now, try to move the two halves of the dmf against each other, it should be nice and smooth when you do it, not jerky, damn thats hard to describe! lol
however i note yours is diesel, i had a vibration when ticking over and a judder when taking up drive it wasnt the flywheel, it was the turbo side engine mountinghad gone, and the gearbox mounting rubbers were perished put together they gave a strange juddery take up,
might be worth checking? :y

Many thanks ;) I shall order up a decent clutch anyway because I've always doubted this one, it's got CIS UK printed on it. Ever heard of them?
Based on that i'd say the flywheel is ok then, I'd rather write off the cost from mr clutch, bite the bullet and put a new one on eh, ::)
Cheers for the info, I'll also check the mount but either way, the clutch is...
....shyte!!!

cant say i have heard of them, others may have? however final piece of advice, when mine died 3 weeks after chipping it, a little searching and cross referencing revealed the 3 litre clutch would fit the flywheel, so 3 litre clutch is exactly the same as td!! used to be a little smaller, vaux realised this after 3 years of production ;D so you can order one from anywhere you like but make sure it isnt the original smaller one they give you, cant imagine many places will still have the smaller part number but some may!!

Ok I bet you are wondering eh,
New clutch fitted by me. Here's what they done.
They had fitted the smaller (incorrect, and cheaper) friction plate to the other gubbins that were already on the car. They (badly) re-faced the pressure plate, and charged me for a full kit. Even for the slave, which I SWEAR they didn't change until I went back and got (supposedly) another clutch fitted on warrenty. Tossers.

They are cowboys still, even after an appearance on watchdog!!
Anyway I lodged a complaint with head office, waiting to hear the outcome.
Will keep you posted :y

shit!!!!! that aint good, glad i was near the ball though with the smaller clutch!!!

Yes mate spot on! As soon as I read that I knew that's what they done, I remembered calling Autovaux for a clutch kit price and they asked for the engine code
'I can't give you a price without an engine code as it's about £50 difference between the two...'
Wot, is my registration wrong or incomplete? Two other companies quoted with just the reg??? Lol
The DMF is fine btw ;D now need to get on the blower to trading standards...

Well done on the update Maracus - will look forward to hearing of the eventual outcome. :y

Lucky you know what you're doing, us mere mortals would be shelling out and being fobbed off for ever more! Well done and good luck with the claim :y
-
Well I wasn't able to correct the matter, I managed to pick up a 24 hour sickness bug, so been mashed up in a pile on the sofa all day watching... Crap telly. Oh well at least I have printed off a copy of the response from 'consumer direct' detailing my rights ;) now I just need to dig out the receipt... Hopefully get this sorted Monday!!

Fitted an LUK kit and fly wheel to mine about £350 iirc, approx 1/3 what vx were asking at the time. :o
Worst part of the whole job was bleeding the hydraulics. Apparently needs to be done under pressure FROM the bleed screw for best results. Didn't even occur to me at the time so took a good 3 hours pi##ing about to even get it to work. >:(
These cars are nothing if not educational... ::)
Good luck with the claim. :y

Well, that was interesting!! Just visited mr. Crutch and spent nearly an hour arguing with them! Was even on their phone to head office.
Basically, they tried fobbing me off with 'us? Dodgy? Nooo..'
Then head office were like 'sorry sir you removing the part has invalidated your warrenty' I'm like 'NO my consumer rights bla bla bla unsatisfactory', not done properly, substandard parts etc, i explained about a trust issue that had developed, only at the time failed to point out how they kept fobbing me off and manipulating me to buy time, plus they knew about it before the warrenty and still didn't successfully put it right, kept fobbing me with 'needs to bed in' until when they finally did replace it, the warrenty period was nearly up anyway!! So by the time I have allowed sufficient 'bedding in time' it would of exceeded the warrenty period. I actually questioned this to them!
Ironically, the guy in the shop never mentioned the warrenty invalidation, just wriggled LOTS when I pointed out that I don't believe the slave was changed and that the pressure plate had been faced. Also ironically, They had an 'omega in this morning' so had a brand new clutch just sitting there!! Yes it was the same clutch, but there was ribbing around different lugs that on mine, weren't, further highlighting the fact it had been faced. He denied this. Third ironically, as I walked in, they were on the phone arranging a warrenty replacement on another job!!
Anyway I WILL be claiming back my refund, I just need to, at some point over the next few days, write a very official sounding long winded letter to head office, fully explaining my grounds and giving them one final opportunity to offer a full refund...

My sister had her Peugeot 307 in there, it rides the clutch itself, not the nicest thing when trying to join a motorway. Although they have admitted there is a fault. They are a complete and utter bunch of useless pr**ks and I wouldn't recommend anyone, nor send one of my cars down there.
