as title?
seems a little odd the the car has TC when you cant spin the wheels anyway...its a little over kill having the snow mode button and TC on a automatic
also is there a way to get these dang back wheels to spin ;D
-
Get a 3.0 or a 3.2 - they'll spin up 8-)
-
The rear wheels on our 2.5 will quite happily spin if you get it right (or should that be wrong?).
Besides which, it is quite easy to screw up when cornering, on a roundabout, etc, so that's why TC is there.
PS
If you can't induce wheelspin on your current ride, give it to me and I'll show you how to write the alphabet on the tarmac (at the expense of your rubber of course). ;)
-
TC is only on V6, and any V6 should be able to light up the rears in most conditions, esp if induced in a corner ::)
-

snow mode & TC are completely different. Snow mode enables you to set off in 3rd gear reducing the need of TC to cut in.
All recent Vauxhall auto's have had snow mode but not necessarily TC ie a 4 pot Omega or a lesser model Astra G :y

my 2.6 had no probs spinning :y
-
i have only driven it for a day, and spinning the wheels is something that doesnt really bother me, hell in my other car it used to annoy me when they lit up..
but now because i cant spin them, i want to know how to spin them, any tips? ;D

Turn the TC off!
-
i have turned the TC off....TC off = light on the dash yeah?

Turn the TC off!
And press the right hand pedal hard :y
-
just a run through...
i turned the TC off, turned the sport button on put the car in first gear, held one foot on the brake, other foot flat on the go faster pedal and it still just gripped :(
-
Sounds like your motor is severely down on power or there is an issue with your auto box, Mr Carl...
It is genuinely hard to stop mine spinning up on anything less than perfect flat tarmac, and I don't go in for intentional racing starts.
P.S - Sport button will make absolutely no difference if you hit the pedal hard enough to get kick-down.

It will make a difference in the scenario the OP tried (standing start in D1).
In fact it makes a noticeable difference overall as sport mode makes the box hang out for longer before changing up.

No it wont.
I suspect you have very good tires Mr Carl! The sh1t LingLang's on my car, it'll spin up on dry Tarmac with a gentle push of the loud pedal ;D

....

Correct!
My car will rarely lose traction in the dry, I have TB's favourite Michelins on my car. ;)
PS We fit TYRES on this side of the Atlantic ::)

No it wont.
The radiotherapy must be frying my brain as well as my ar**
Both yourself & Tony are correct that sport mode won't make a difference as the OP held the box in D1 to start with.
/me slinks off to the corner rather embarrased :-X

;D Dont worry, my brain doesn't work half the time.
Sports Mode will not affect acceleration whatsoever, provided the foot is firmly planted into the shagpile. (Straight Line, from standing). :y

I've already "performance tested" our MIG and know full well that the only thing sport mode does is to make the box hang itself out to the redline before changing up a cog, so god knows why I wrote that crap on page 1 :D
Maybe it's time for a drink or a jamaican woodbine (as unofficially recommended by St Luke's) to help me think straight ;D ;D
-
Dont beat yourself up about it Martian (and pass that woodbine this way) 8-)

With or without the 'S' pressed, it will change gear at exactly the same RPM when the peddle is to the floor :y

Maybe there is something wrong with our's then, because it won't hang out to the redline in normal mode when I push the loud pedal.
I have driven various auto's over the last 30 years and the "feel" of our box gives me no concerns whatsoever where gear changing is concerned, in fact it is one of the smoothest boxes I have ever encountered that does exactly what I expect it to, at the time I expect it to do it (if you know what I mean).

'Peddle', BM? ;D

Yours is a 2.5, which will have an AR25. It *should* make no difference whether in Sports Mode or not. After driving other Vx's with auto Transmissions (namely Astra G's, MkIII Cavaliers etc) the 'S' button does hang onto the gears longer if memory serves me correctly.
peddle, BM?
Oh Shush! Stella is in the house! ;D

The autos do tend to grip well from a standing start in the dry... Why not build the revs up in neutral and then pop it into D?
T.C. is for p@ssys.

You're less than an hour from me, feel free to pop round ;)
Seriously though, I declared I was smoking the herb when my chemo started as I wanted to be sure there wouldn't be a reaction between the THC and whatever was in the chemo bag.
The official reply was "we can't condone that, but there is no cause for concern from a reaction point of view"
The "unofficial" response was "smoke as much as you can between now and surgery"
I can see the reasoning behind the unofficial response because I'm not a big man to start with (circa 60KG), and at my first weigh in when treatment started I was tipping the scales at a paltry 47KG.
Since partaking in the herb, I have been averaging a 1.5KG advantage per week thanks to the munchie attack it brings on (which is bloody good going for me), so at least the surgeon will have something to work with when I'm on his table in a couple of months or so.
I'm not an angel by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like to abide by the laws of the land as best I can and I do despise people that don't abide by some laws (eg, drugs).
The irony for me is that I am doing something I despise in order to improve my chances of survival.
Hypocritical I know, but self preservation seems to be the daddy right now.

I'd assumed that cannabis just helped with the pain?
Also, although I don't know you or anything, I'd like to offer all my best wishes for your upcoming operation.

I wouldn't advise that... It's asking for something to break ::) ;)
As for spinning the wheels... You either have extremely good rubber, aren't doing it right or the engine is down on power... Both my V6's will happily spin up the rear wheels in all conditions ::) ::)

Sincerely wish you all the very best mate - hope the outcome is entirely positive post-op.
And when you're up on your feet again and feeling better, I may well take you up on your kind offer.... ;)

Why does the op think he has TC at all? :-/

Nah... I think he's referring to his new Facelift 2.5 ;)
-
my 2.5 is'nt keen on lighting up the rear end much in the dry,I put it down to extra weight of the estate and good grip from the toyo's on the back plus a lack of low end torque from the baby v6 :'(
-
It had new rear tyre on for the mot, I don't know what ones they are.
When I had my foot on the brake and the other on the go faster the revs would not go above 4k, or at least I think it was around 4k
-
Lit the rear end up today, wet round about! Whoop
-
The mv6 needs a bit of steering angle to provoke in the dry. The elite, with it's awful Michelin ps2 tyres is more than happy to light them up
-
Oh FFS. It's a calibra.
If you can't light up a fwd you're really not trying. :-X
Lower powered rear drivers need, in no particular order, a bootful of throttle, a clutch pedal and, optionally, some directional provocation. For an auto, a sharp change of direction, such as a mini round about, together with a bootful of throttle should do the trick. Best not tried at much over 15 mph though, Migs carry alot of weight (and momentum) if it all goes pete tong. :)

Yep. ::) Upside: only needs glacial reaction times from the driver to correct it. Downside: takes a long time and lots of road to come back into line. ;D

lol i will leave it until i have a little more experiance with RWD before i start trying to drift around corners :D
