Title: Webuyanycar.com.. They must be having a giraffe?
Post by: aaronjb on 10 June 2011, 17:56:25
I spotted the 'holy grail' of Omegas (for me!) on Autotrader earlier; what looks to be a facelift W reg Estate with the 2.5TD engine, towbar, good condition etc at a reasonable price. Only way it could have been better would be to have been a higher spec (i.e. Elite) rather than CDX.

Anyway, I thought I'd just see what 'webuyanycar.com' would offer me on the 3.2 Elite and see if it was worth it (i.e. worth more than the diesel).

Bear in mind the 3.2 has 88k on the clock, is cosmetically about as good as they get and mechanically great..

£560 was their offer. £560!

I know they make low offers but I was shocked; even the MR2 (slghtly newer but higher mileage with dents down one side thanks to careless parkers etc) is worth more at ~£1800.. or am I just being very optimistic about the value of the Omega?  :o

;D ;D

If I'm staying with petrol/lpg then I'll just keep the current one ;) it's just that I've had an eye out for a mint diesel for a while on the basis that I reckon I could save a fair bit of money on fuel with a manual diesel..

But not if I'm going to take a roasting financially to buy one  ;D admittedly I did pay a bit over the odds for the 3.2 Elite as it was from a dealer..

Damn - worth a try though, lol

Good luck on the hunt for "the" car though and don't get ripped off when selling yours either!!

Think LPG when its down to the figures is cheaper, worth running some spreadsheets to compare?

I used to get around 10p a mile on LPG, its now around 12.5p mile thanks to rise in LPG  :(

Think its going to be tough for a diesel to beat that. That said no belts to worry about on the 2.5TD   :)

I think you're probably right about LPG (although I'm not sure a toroidal tank would get me very far based on what LD has said :)) - the diesel would only make sense if I could sell mine for ~£2k and pick up an equivalent condition 2.5TD for ~£1k and pocket the difference..

they know how difficult it is to sell omegas on, so they offer stupidly low

they're part of carcraft, it goes straight back up for sale

By all accounts you'd be lucky to get what they offer anyway. They always find some reason to climb down on their initial offer and hep you're desperate enough to bend over.
