The repair centre today admitted defeat, and said although they could easily fix the car, they would not be able to source a new prodrive bumper.
After confirming that there is absolutely, 100% no structural damage, they've given me two options.
1) They give me £1600, they keep the car.
2) They give me £1120, and I keep the car, as it is. This is on the understanding, that it's not recorded as an insurance writeoff (on the basis the damage is strictly cosmetic)
I've gone for option two.
After some thought - better the devil you know. I know the car, how reliable it is, what it does and doesn't need doing, and I've also completed the rear end LPG conversion.
The damage is only cosmetic. I need to source a new headlight washer, possibly new wheelarch liner, and some new trim to go under the headlight.
My Prodrive front bumper is NOT badly damaged, and I reckon it can be repaired without much problem at all.
The bumper has come away from the wing, but I reckon something can be sorted.
So realistically, I can fix it myself, at my leisure, to a standard I know I will be happy with.
And in the scheme of things, there should be enough change to pay for some new wishbones, a new set of decent boots for my 17's, my front end LPG kit, and a trip to WIM, possibly with a night in the pub left over...
Sound reasonable?

I'd say you've come off rather well there mate, especially if they don't put it on the register. At the end of the day its like you say, you know the car, you've certainly done a lot of work on it & if you bought another you'd be back at square one. By the sounds of it, it doesn't sound too difficult a job to do, and if you've got a little left for a pint or two, can't be bad :y :y :y

Where abouts can I find the guy who drives backwards into people? :D
I know these things are a PITA while they're happening but sounds like you've done well out of it. :y

Just a shame you will get rear ended by your insurance company in the 3 years following this. Even non-fault claims will add to your policy as I found out with SWMBO's insurance a couple of weeks ago. >:(

As the innocent / not guilty party, I have dealt directly with the third party's insurance :y
Mine will be made aware of the accident, of course, but no 'claim' made :y

It will still affect your premium, as you have to declare, irrespective of blame or vlaim

Had a similar issue about a couple of years ago with swmbo car someone backed into it in a carpark admited liability to there insurance company and was all sorted,Only problem was when renewal came had to admit a non fault claim and it increased her premium.couldn't lie as insurance companys now exchange info and if she had a bump she would not be covered,
Great result with the car tho mate.

I have plenty of epoxy and fibreglass here if you want to fix the structure of the bumper. You can then use filler to mend the gaps. PM me if interested.
