Well I have finnished the repairs on my 2.6 and decided to get some new insurance since my old policy expired on the 14th (didnt renew due to the stupid renewal price!) and I cannot believe how much I am being quoted.
My cheapest quote is £850!!! :o but that wont cover me as they dont cover cat c cars. I still cant believe it was listed as cat c due to how light the damage was but this is doing my head in. I have 9yrs no claims and no accidents so I think this is silly money. Ive tried all the comparison sites but there no help. Anyone know any specialist insures that cover cat c????

Have you tried Admiral? They are quoting me £1100 mind you for an Astra which was a Cat C... (no NCB though as it's expired, and a Manchester postcode...)
If not, Chris Knott supposedly cover Cat C's at no extra cost, so might be worth trying them.

Swinton used to. You`ll need a VIC check & new MOT IIRC

Just sorted mine out with tesco's ( via confused.com)
Works out at £333 fully comp with protected ncb :y
Only gone up by £15 from last year ;D
First quote ( unemployed ) £568 :'(
Reset the employment too self employed security consultant ( back in business in september ) and was quoted the £333 ;D
Note to all members ................ play around with the job description if possible.
It makes a hell of a differance :y :y

Yes it does, especially when you follow it up with a phone call. Quoted over 300 from comparison websites. Went to the cheapest quote, phoned them and explained how much I'm unable to drive the car due to my job, away more than 6 months so 1/2 the risk of other drivers, lot less mileage (only managed 1200, yes 1200 miles last year) able to drive at non peak times as I'm not on any deadlines etc etc. Got them down to 156 fully comp with only 200 excess or me and SWMBO. Result!

Using the comparisons, I found my best quote through Kwik-Fit... I paid around £380 (unemployed) although that has does not include ncb protection but does include a courtesy car...
I found that the comparisons do vary their quotes some too...

Don't know what there problem is swmbo has a cat c meagan insurance on it is not a problem most insurance companys don't even ask and you DO NOT have to declare it to them as long as you have given them the reg number dvla put a marker on a cat c anyway, The myth that an insurance company pays you 30% less is rubbish in the eyes of the insurance ombudsman if its had a vosa check you should pay out market value,
Trust me swmbo wrote of her old cat c car and got full market value,

Not got a clue :-/
Had a chat with them this morning because im about to fit lpg to the motor.
Asked me what I do for a living.
Told them I fit systems and do inspecions / reports on alarm / cctv systems and instalation.
Not a problem
I know what you meen though.
If I put down that I was a electrician ( which is the other part of my job, the price would have gone up ::)

Definitely worth a punt on the comparison websites, my experience recently, as follows, shows this:
Admiral Direct: £556
Admiral via Go Compare: £530
Admiral via Confused.com: £493
In each case the quotes via the comparison websites were cheaper to start with but once I made them match the direct Admiral quote they're still cheaper.
What's even better is that you get an Admiral policy number to quote, so I will simply quote the cheapest one when playing them off with Elephant :y.
