Hi again OOFers :)
Been offered a '54 plate (so pre-facelift) Vectra Elite estate. It's the 2litre diesel with 101kmiles, 6 mths mot and they want £2.5k.
Any warning signs/advice from those that know on here? I took it for a drive and thought it ok. Not as comfy as the omega was but i'd live with it. Had a concern over a potential slipping clutch but he's prepared to knock £200 off to cover the cost of a new one!
I know it's not as good a diesel as the common rail 1.9s but it has been serviced properly and will do for now methinks?....
Just need something big and reliable again as the Corsa's getting on my nerves!

If you carnt afford the 1.9 go for the 2.2 derv as the 2l struggles to pull you out of bed ,For a big car it is really down on power to weight

Apart from horrific ride quality, terrible seats and complete lack of 'feel' through the steering wheel...
Forget it. You'd be better off with a Mondeo or if you are struggling on price, a 406.
Yes, really, a Peugeot over a Vauxhall! ;D

now i know you are having a laugh...i drive a pug for work they are the most horrofic piles of crap ever electrics and engines and gearboxs all crap dont go any where near one my one spends more time with the stealer and its only 18 months old

Wow, I knew there'd be mixed opinion but this is really varied! lol. Thank you!
It does make me question Parkers' and WhatCar?'s reviews though as they've said stay away from the 2.2, that the ride quality is comfy, especially on the motorway, that the 120 is better than the 150 cdti engine etc etc. I'm more confused than ever!
When I test drove it I wasn't aware of a lack of power, in fact it impressed me. Albeit this was with only two large blokes up front, not a bootfull or even a caravan on it. Back to the drawing board maybe? Or hold out for a 1.9 150....
I know the mondeo is referred to as a great car, but I'm just not a fan of anything with a blue oval badge, no matter how often they're described as the benchmark or best car of class etc. there's just something I don't like. Maybe it's my quirk.
Just putting it out there and seeing what comes back :y
the mrs just put the kibosh on any purchase tho, until at least two of our six cars have gone. (only two work!!)

ps my bro had a 406 saloon years and years ago, it was ok so i'll see if any estates survive.

So it's not a 406 then. One of the most comfortable family cars ever. Engines might not be 'strong' and it might not have all the luxury's of an Omega, but neither does a Vectra. Just sayin'
