Fault blamed for car blaze.
Lincolnshire Echo, (BAGJ), 15 July 2011, p. 5,
A Car that caught fire due to a mechanical fault led to a county road being closed.
The Vauxhall Omega caught alight when it was stationary on a pavement next to Meadow Lane in North Hykeham.
A man was underneath the car working on it at the time of the fire. He was treated for minor burns, but was otherwise unharmed. No one else was hurt during the incident. The incident happened at about 11am yesterday. The road was closed while fire and rescue teams made the vehicle safe.
Police said the road was reopened at about 12.30pm and traffic was flowing
normally.

A mechanical fault causing a fire? That's a new one!
Hope it wasn't an OOF'er. :(
Another power sounder perhaps? :-/
-
Man was underneath working on it at the time, more likely to have something to do with whatever he was doing I reckon, fuel on a hot manifold perhaps?
-
Agreed - there's not much you can do to a power sounder from under the car.
;)
Glad he's OK whoever it is.

Didn't hear anything about that myself, I drive along Meadow Lane everyday to and from work.
Lets hope it wasn't the power sounder as mine has just started playing up this morning (goes off whenever I lock the car) so will be disconnecting it tonight when I get home. Hadn't got around to checking if it was still connected or not, guess that question has now been answered.

Or he DC welded a spanner to the main feed to the starter motor (I've seen someone do that before - lots of pretty sparks followed by the mechanic trying to hammer the spanner off while the car was 6' in the air on the lift)..

My beautiful MV6 used to be presented in immaculate star silver Z157. I came out of the house this morning and it now appears to be a strange dark sooty colour.
Very odd..... ::) ::) :)

Yea, will be removing. Thats assuming the car is still there when I finish work as it has been sat outside unlocked all day!

Could you class rust as a "mechanical fault"? Perhaps he was welding...
