Title: Cambelt Sowth West - Bristol area
Post by: owl10 on 25 July 2011, 21:04:11
Hi all!

Still on the omega hunt and a few more Q's.....

Seen a couple of 2.6 and 3.0 elites which need cambelts doing. I know a few members on here offer a fitting service (no time or inclination to do myself), is there anyone in the south west who does this? If so How much?!!!

If I was looking to a independent garage to do the belt, tensioner and waterpump what is a ballpark reasonable figure to expect?

Thanks!!!

JamesV6 does an excellent job and is local to you as well :y
parts about £130 plus his Labour of £50 (at present)
garage you are looking at £200+ and a chance of a crap job being done if they can't get the locking kit and not just guess to the closest notch

JamesV6CDX (or whatever he is today !!) is based around Gloucestershire and has a very good reputation, no idea what his prices are these days.

Other OOF travelling mechs are more northerly and travelling cost must be factored in ..

One thing to factor in is the guys on here who do it know their stuff. I had DLK do the belt on my recently acquired 2.6 CDX, and well he knows his stuff, plus they are doing mainly omega's so know them inside out. A genuine VX garage has to know all vauxhall models, and may not have seen a mig for ages. DLK had special tools made to make his job easier, plus he used a quality locking kit, whereas we could tell the previous garage who did the cambelt just painted marks on the cams and covers and hoped they were right. They weren't.

You pay's your money ....
