Title: Omegas compared with Scorpios, interesting read.
Post by: Agemo on 03 August 2011, 23:46:04
As the title says, this is a site for Dagenham Dustbin owners, and one of them gives a very professional review on the differences, very interesting, and honest. A few things were dubious, like "Exhaust Emissions indicator and an Engine Immobiliser indicator", but otherwise a very interesting read.

I had new Scorpios in 1985 and 1989 and nearly new in 1993 and 1996 with the last one kept until 2003 overlapping with my first (and only) Omega - 51 plate. The Scorpios were great cars but the spec of the Omega Elite and the drive is far superior. A more realistic comparison was with the Carlton.

Scorpios were so ugly I think it was illegal to even look at them if you were under eighteen. ::) ;D

Absolutely THE most ugly thing ever made.

<Pauses trying to think os something more ugly>

Possibly with the exception of the Suzuki Hayabusa... And a Fiat multipla or what ever it's called.

Apart from those, ugliest thing ever made.  :-/

Going back a few years Performance ford did a buying guide on the Scorpio and in their words if you want to drive a block of Flats on wheels the Scorpio is the car for you . . .  ;D ;D ;D

The wide mouth frog Scorpio provided a huge sales success for Vauxhall.

Granadas - definately sub Carlton

Late V6 Granada felt not much quicker than a 2.0 Omega!!!!

Can't access link, but guesses the ford lover who compares 2.9 cosworth to 2.5 elite?

I seem to recall biggest gripe being less power. 3.0l would be better compaison ;)

Never had the Frog model but having taken large labrador, 2 kids and Mrs who loads kitchen sink, we were able to make the many trips to Cornwall and Manchester with only occasional resort to a roof rack.

Dog and luggage in hatch no probs.

They did a great job - older ones a lot better looking than Frog agreed of course.

My 1993 Scorpio was nicked from a railway station - with something like 18000 on clock. A year later a garage in Slough phoned and asked my confirmation of mileage on a car that had just come in - 90000!!.

Got a person to court and he had to pay my losses at £10 amonth or something. Insurance paid up £13000 on a car I paid £15000 for 18 months before - which was not bad.

The 12v V6 was pretty asthmatic but the 24v cossie V6 was better, and probably comparable to the X30XE.

I loved the Scorpio leather seats (talking pre-frog Scorpio here. Couldn't ever bring myself to go near the bug-eyed variety :o). You just seemed to sink into them and be held in place in a way that MV6, and certainly Elite seats are totally lacking.

Everything else was pretty average but solid (except the wiring looms to the autobox).

We ran the pre bug eye Granada Scorpio as patrol cars for ages alongside the 5series beemers of the day. I quite liked the last of the hatchbacks (H plate, as I recall) and think they handled better through the twisties. Bear in mind they were police spec suspension and boot area fully loaded with the required working kit but still able to push them on quite well.

Suspension could easily be bottomed out though when yped at speed. Not the first time I have thought the suspension was coming out the bonnet whilst the rest of the car would be appearing through my aunties living room roof in Sydney.....

Glad the fleet buyer decided against the bug eye version and we went virtually complete BMW!

Scorpio's are fantastic, they ride like a big sofa, the 2.9 24v is excellent too. Really lovely cars with love/hate looks, personally I like them.

I had one of the last - a 1994 or maybe even 1995 M Reg in Tourmaline Green (same colour as previous L reg one that was nicked - hopefully I did not buy it back)
