Right guys, should have one of these coming tomorrow on an 04 Plate, it's the baby 2.5 the 160, getting it for a stupidly low price, what do I need to look out for, cambelt history, headgasket, clutch, gearbox. Anything else?
-
Cambelts, I think they have 4 belts!? or was it two? Still think book says 8 hour job, so worth seeing if that is done.
-
Cambelt replacement is a right mare on the kv6, as tunnie says it's a days work to change all the belts

I think that used to be it but I believe that like the migs it got altered as belt failures were occurring before due time

Well it's less than 80k/8Yrs, the bloke says it's been done, but I'll have a butchers through all the paperwork tomorrow, oh joy :-/

Something about the fans/air con rings a bell, requires chopping in through the casing to repair for some reason :-/

Sounds fun, off to have a look in the morning :y

Have a shufty at the MG-Rover.org forum. Full of useful info. :y
The 2.5 V6 are a lot of car for the money. Often sold cheaply when the time comes to change the belts.
Main dealers (X-part) charge a fortune (£600-800+) and independants often decline to do the work!! :o

I just love them is it auto by any chance ???
:D :D

160??
Thought that the autos were 180 and manuals 190?

The only engine to get in a 75 is the diesel

Of the 2.5's there are three different variants a 160 BHP, a 180 BHP Auto and the 190, unfortunately I didn't go and have a look today as I've got major problems with my van at the minute :-/

VIS Valves on the inlet manifold failed as early as 40,000 miles. They jingle like a barsteward on tickover. A quick google will tell if all 2.5's were affected. Should have been a recall judging by the amount that failed. The plastic butterfly bar fails.
My brother-in-law has the 190. Sounds very nice when gunned. His VIS Valves jingle but it doesn't appear to have affected the performance at all. :-/

i would dispute that it takes 8 hours to change the cambelts on a mgzt. it took me that long and i had to make the the tools, if you have the reqd tools about 4 to 5 hrs should do it (without removing the lump)
