Title: What a mental day I had today! 14-08-2011
Post by: car-nut on 15 August 2011, 00:25:02
I woke up at 11, cut my other halfs hair and then went online, got in touch with someone who wanted my Focus in swap for there Volvo V40 who didn't reply, I then found a car I fell in love with and by 5.30pm it was outside of my house. I swapped my 99 V Reg Ford Focus with 208k Miles with knackered suspension components for a 2000 X Reg Vauxhall Vectra SRi 2.2 Estate in Silver with 195k Miles on the clock but the engine has only done approx 70k Miles, It has a few paint issues and a load of niggly little faults, But I love it. Not as much as my Omega but a lot more than the Focus.

Watch out for the understeer on these things, esp in the wet.  The handling is awful :-X

It is a nice car, but got a shock today, needs a ruddy VIC test, the DEALER i got it from who took my Focus forgot to mention that! I still came off better tho as the Focus's suspension was completely knackered!!!

But still a pain in the backside!

Thanks, It should fly through the VIC test as my oartner and I checked all the plates with the VIN number and looked underneath for any signs of welding and dodgy covering ups, but all ok. So am quietly confident it will sail through, but it means the car will be off the road for a couple of weeks when the tax expires as we can't afford to tax it for a couple of weeks due to the VIC fee being £41.

Your not driving them fast enough, Mate!
I'm on my 3rd Vectra and they do have a slight tendency to understeer!

No real electrical issues, other than the usual ecu and sensor faults that any other Vx. suffers from. The timing chain needs looking after regarding frequent oil changes, other than that they are good cars, just a few too many rubber bushes on the suspension for my liking...

Your'e right, I can't be driving them fast enough  ;D

It's the first SRi we have had and gutted that the dealer I got it from didn't have the decency to tell me it needed a VIC test. If he had said it needed one, I would have looked the car over with more scrutiny and still taken it! Just would have been nice to have known I have to find an extra £41 to get the VIC test done as the tax is out at the end of the month!

I have requested the next available appointment so am on standby with the car.

I agree.  The understeer is bad enough, but when you lose your bottle and release the throttle, the lift-off Oversteer will make your arse twitch even more!  ;D

A VIC test is a Vehicle Identity Check which takes about 20 minutes at a dedicated VOSA centre that costs £41.

If your vehicle has been an insurance write off and someone then repairs the car if it is a Catagory A to C the car is then required to have a VIC test to make sure that someone hasn't just stuck the plates of a write off car onto another car.

It is also to check that the car isn't a cut and shut etc...

I had a Peugeot 406 saloon that was registered as a CAT A but when I bought it, there was no signs at all that it had been in any kind of accident and CAT A is the worst one.

They are but they really need smaller tyres as they catch the rear arches with 235 tyres on them.
