Tunnie - I've modified your guide, putting in torx bit size, bit about older ones with copper washer, and filter only should be hand tight

Ah ok cheers, to me was very tight, i could't do it up tight enough! ;D ;D :-[
I need to get a picture of the Vx oil and filter, i'll do that tommorow. Can you add the type of oil needed?
-
Can you add the type of oil needed?
What? An oil thread in LB66's absence ;D

Well no one can reply to it being a guide.. ;)

I thought the creator was still able to modify even when in the maintenance guide part.
Tunnie top guide :)
-
Yes, creator should be able to update for 24hrs...
-
Top guide. I especially like the pics of the trolley jack/axle stand positions.
I was told years ago to remove the filler cap before doing an oil change 'cos it helps the oil to flow out, although to be honest; I'm not sure it would make any difference.

Another top guide Tunnie, well done. :D
Any chance of getting your camera under a real engine and including the v6 pics for completeness, and explaining why the V6 needs a filter removal tool.
Cheers
Merv

Neither need removal tool unless it is too rather tight!
4 pot is so easy to get at though, if it is tight, you can normally still get off by hand. V6 is a little more of a reach, and therefore less easy if on tight...
Only differences are sump bolt is on very bottom of sump on v6, and filter is near rear of passenger side of block (next to crank sensor) - need to ideally remove front wheel for decent access.

Real engine! >:( - For that no, you V6 people will have to find it on your own ;D ;D
Only kidding, think i have a piccy someware of the V6 oil filter. I may get another one, and also of the tools need for you V6 people.
Thanks for the replys everyone, pictures for me help a huge amount when doing jobs. As you can print them out and compare them to your own car, also its a lot easier to find things compared to a text description.

Forgot about the V6 sump being different. I might jack up project B and get some piccys of that.
Although that will be after the 24 hour elapsed, so I might need admin powers? ;) ::)
-
I can move it somewhere - ie Test section - let you modify, then move back. That way you wont need Admin ;)

I have found, on a 2.2, if you leave the drivers side front jacked up slightly, tyre still touching the ground, it helps to remove all of the old oil.
If you drain it level, you cannot get all of the old oil out.
Torque wrench tightening settings are:
Torx Bolt: 10-15 Nm (Rubber Washer)
Hexagon Bolt: 45-55 Nm (Copper Washer)
Great 'How to' tunnie.

Great How to Tunnie [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Tho i reckon its still worth the 20squid I pay to have it done at my local garage
Its great value for entertainment ;D
The boss usually sends the apprentice to do the oil change
Car goes on the ramps.....nice hot engine so apprentice usually burns himself with the hot oil ;D
Even better entertainment if i take one of my veccys.....coz the oil filter is situated right next the exhaust down pipe from the manifold......first he burns himself with the hot oil then burns himself again trying to get the oil filter off ;D

Nice guide Tunnie and more great pics particularly of the jacking procedure! :)
Not being picky but you have not mentioned the need to warm the oil up to operating temperature before embarking. I guess that most people on here know this already but for completeness...............
Also, the 2.0 engine takes 4.0 Litres including filter change - well it does in my Cavalier (2.0 16V). Thinking about this though, there may be extra capacity in the Omega owing to the oil cooler so 4.5 could be correct.
I would also add the need to wear latex gloves whilst doing this - oil is carconegenic and you do not really want it all over your hands! Plus, it takes ages to remove without Swafega et al!
On the 2.0 and 2.2 engines, you can fill the oil filter completly as it is virtually vertical. V6 is horizontal so a half fill is about all you can do. I always fill the filter with the new oil at the start of the process as the paper element soaks the oil up. Then I fill the filter again just prior to fitment. This works well and results in the oil pressure light switching off virtually immediatly following start up.
Whilst the old oil is draining out and has reached a trickle, I always put a bit of fresh oil in without the sump plug on. This ensures that, as far as possible, the old oil is drained completly.
The new filter only needs to be done up hand tight. I generally wait until it becomes tight and then tighten another quarter of a turn. Similarly, sump plug does not need to be done up tight - I screw it in by hand until tight, and then nip it up with my socket.
Finally, I change my oil every 3K or around 3 - 4 months.
I hope nobody takes offence at any of this - these are just the things that I do when I change oil. If I have, then I apologise. ;)

all good advice, though I torque up plug as per the book of lies...

But you haven't posted them into the maintenance guide......

Oh but I have ;)

cheers x25... i'll ad a note at the top saying the engine should be warm, and then left to rest for 5 mins. :)
Had a lot of comments about the jack/axel stand picture, glad you all like it. Usefull reference i feel.

So you have.... :)

Looks like my jack. And stand. And that looks like my driveway used to, before Project TB1 decided to dump a shit load of coolant, dropping the oiling grime of the engine with it >:(
