Title: Windscreen replacement - not insurance - West Mids
Post by: kevinminton on 08 September 2011, 14:33:13
Hi all. Anybody got any recommendations for pay-as-you-go windscreen replacement in Solihull / Birmingham / West Mids?

The windscreen on Daughter's car is pretty scratched up and becomes difficult to see through when it's raining and there's oncoming traffic (= winter). A few hours polishing with cerium oxide has helped but I'm thinking about just getting it changed for her.

Now as this is her car I won't be accidentally bumping into while carrying an automatic centre punch, so it won't be an insurance claim.

It's a P reg Ford Escort, so not worth that much to start with.

Any recommendations? TIA

K

I don't know of anyone specifically in your area but you could try and source one from a scrapyard and then go to autoglass etc.. and slip them a tenner?

Posting this up in case someone finds it useful.

Windscreen was replaced in the drive by Impact Windscreens http://www.impactwindscreens.co.uk/ (http://www.impactwindscreens.co.uk/), based in Tamworth. The price was not much more than the insurance excess would have been - and far less than a laughably high quote from a well-known company. Many of the other companies I found using Google couldn't even be bothered to call me back.

Don't know what they charge for more complex stuff than 15yo Escorts, but if you need a windscreen replaced in the West Mids, then IME it's worth giving them a call.
