Title: Platinum or standard plugs?
Post by: Stallion on 14 September 2011, 14:48:37
iv got a 3.2 with standard gm plugs in there? just wondering firstly would my engine accept them.
Is there any gain from putting on platinum plugs (they're supposedly have longer intervals than standard).
Is the performance of the plugs noticable, has anyone tried it and lastly are they WORTH IT!!  :y :y

Considering standard plugs are about £1.20 each, last & perform well. I can't see why these Platinum/iridium/kryptonite plugs make any difference.

I know some say they come with "lift time warranty" But they cost like £40  :o

Personally I would just stick with standard GM  :y

Sure when you buy a box of them (10) they work out at £1.something

So realistically you can have GM plugs change them a few times and even then it will cost you less than a platinum set!! sounds like a no brainer, Cheers Tunnie  :y :y

Basically yes, you can change them many times for the cost of just one set of "fancy" plugs  :y

I dont believe in expensive iridium plugs.. anyway you drive the car on street and you dont race for miliseconds.. However I use standard NGK 4 electrode and well pleased with it..

I think they are around £2.50 tunnie ;)

I use normal GM twins in my 3.2.  No point using quads, as they come loose long before the life of even twins is up, and lack the disadvantage of spark shielding.

I use iridium ones in the Rover, because its what Rover specify. Not sure if that is for servicing, or something else odd going on in the head...

I have always used standard spark plugs for all my cars. Changing them on a regular basis offers more piece of mind than 'for life' one imo.

Inclusive of VAT I just paid £19.30 for 6 on TC (once I got past the usual "What's that?" look at the ABS card and the "Do they do that here, then?" and "You came from Essex?").. I make that £3.21 inc VAT each.

Other than if beru make plug leads as cheap as plugs then vx make a huge mark up.
