Not sure that the old bill don't take a dim view of driving without footwear... ...as someone who has been told off before :-X
-

dangerous driving in socks! hope you never have to perform an emergency stop! >:(

lol ???????? you need shoes to an emergency stop.??? erm no!

Why is that Tunnie?
I think you can feel the pedals better in bare feet. The only problem I can see is if you had to get out quick on a surface that would hurt your feet...
-

lol ???????? you need shoes to an emergency stop.??? erm no!
Feel on the clutch yes, but stamp on the brake at 70mph with socks is feking dangerous! You don't have the same braking force as you do with shoes.
Thats why its illegal!
-
Things must have changed then. I remember my mum telling me that she learnt to drive, and took her test, in bare feet because she struggled to find the clutch biting point in shoes.
She passed first time :y although it was about 40 years ago! :( :-X
-
i tend to drive barefoot if im abroad and am wearing flip flops. just me, the open road and my kia something or other ;D ;D ;D ;D

Clutch biting point yeh, I've moved cars in drive way in barefoot, certainly more feel, but would never http://ever consider driving on open road. Take the brake pedal its hard rubber, you need to really stamp on the Omegas progressive brake pedal to do an emergency stop.
Instead of applying good pressure with shoes on, your going to hurt your foot that will instinctively make you apply less pressure.

Since when??? why do rally drivers wear little more that ballet shoes? like driving in bare feet..... ::) ::)

Sorry, Tunster, I have to disagree, no issues with hard braking (planned or emergency) in bare feet ::). As others say, I reckon more feel as well.
But I have had a feeling off from plod for doing it, never asked him the actual reasoning, as I was happy to be gone without the speeding ticket I deserved ::)

Agreed :y

Well I think driving in socks is dangerous. Rally drivers? Well they have skill...
Have a smash on the m25 everyone gets out in pouring rain, your in socks your going to look bit of a prick!
-
tunnie driving without shoes is not illegal...although mr plod WILL nick you for not being in proper control if you should have an accident :y

Have a proper prang, there are plenty of other thinks to make you look a prink than a pair of wet socks, including longer skidmarks than that laid on the carriageway ;D
-
Of course, what you really need....
Are Nomex pixie boots. 8-)

At least they are thin boots, driving in socks is insane. Your not sat on sofa, your sat in something that ways almost 2ton!

Been called much worse ;D
Shoes/boots/barefoot doesn't affect braking power. Modern servo assisted cars dont even require braking effort TBH ;)
-
BTW, I'm not for one second suggesting that driving without footwear is recommended. But it would be hypocritical for me to say don't do it :-X

Whats in a footwell? Small stones, crap from the drive, all sorts. All you need is one little sharp stone either on your sock or on the pedal, you jam you foot on that, you will instinctively release pressure.
Sorry, but your driving a car that can easily kill. Your not sitting on the sofa with your feet up watching crapenders.
Appropriate footwear is required to drive!
If you were hit by a car, and he got out wearing socks, bet you would not be best pleased!
-
Know what a Hoover is? It's that thing you push around your flat when you can't remember if the floor is carpet or wood ;D
Well, it works in cars as well. So she tells me ::)
I'm not saying it's right (or wrong), just saying that I couldn't be upset with others for doing something I have done myself on several occasions.

Thing is you dont need to stamp on the brake pedal because abs does it for you.

Hmmm, not really - the ABS is there to protect you if you have stamped on the brake Pedal

Omega is also progressive, mother T's spare car Nissan Almera, put a feather on the brake, it stops.
Omega needs fair bit effort on the pedal to stop it

Sorry, cannot agree. Omega might have more pedal travel, but doesn't require any more effort...

Drive mother T's Almera then :y
You apply same pressure in that compared to Omega, vast difference in stopping ability. When i first drove it, it was like your use with gas pedal, it was either on or off ;D

true
but you no longer need to stamp on the pedal as beyond a certain point the abs kicks in
-
true
but you no longer need to stamp on the pedal as beyond a certain point the abs kicks in
ABS doesn't have any effect whatsoever on the amount of pedal pressure required to stop the car nor does it "kick in" at a certain pressure / position of the pedal.
It will only intervene if the pressure you are putting on the pedal is enough to lock one of the wheels. Take away the ABS system and the pedal would feel exactly the same.

... but with the farting noise replaced by a loud screech then a crash ;)
-
clearly what is needed is a test.
maybe when you girls go to your next meet one brave soul can volunteer to drive his car and break from 70 in shoes. and then again in socks.
we will then finally be able to put this to bed. and the people who were wrong will have to hang their heads in shame.
-
I know what I would be thinking if someone went into me and got out in just socks :D
I am gonna stamp on this guys foot ;D ;D

Also in your brake test, put a thorn on brake pedal, or a stone in your sock, see how well you brake then ;)
Never mind, as long as your comfy in your socks thats all that matters right? :-X

You forget, I used to own a Focus. Fart and you'll go through the windscreen.
