Title: My Cars
Post by: vectrolosys on 01 August 2006, 13:43:31
Hello,

Some pictures of my cars. The Omega is a 1997 2.5 CDX, it's a little rusty on the doors, but overall it's okay. I like it a great deal despite the cosmetic faults. The front grille is off a Cadillac Catera. I am saving up for a facelift Elite at the moment, but for now, this will do me just fine.

The front, shows the grille to good effect

A poor shot of the side, as the house is in the way!

The side, from one of my favourite angles.

The back.

This is what the majority of the car money goes on :).

Nice.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Is that a bottle of beer i spy in that grey box?

I also note in the other pictures said bottle of beer is missing. You wouldn't have been drinking it would you?

Or is it spot the difference.  ;)

Hello,

Oh yeah :), it's actually a 50p bottle of very nasty wine from Calais, had one sip and binned the rest. It's in all shots, but possible obscured by that rubbish bag in front of it :).

thats a dead ringer for my 2.5 v6 lol well apart from the caddy grill.. was curious to see what the grill looked like on an omega of that colour, not too bad at all may just have to go for the caddy grill afterall.

also is that a single tail pipe i spy poking out the back? i thought all 2.5's had the dual system?

I think it only the 3Litres that have the twin tail pipes.

Hello,

Yep, only 3.0's got the twin system :(. It will fit on but the back box is pricier.

Hello,

Just an update on the cars.

1 - Vauxhall Omega 2.5 CDX

After acquiring some doors in the same colour, I now have a 98% rust free exterior. I have completed a small amount of de-rusting and rust proofing around the rear underbody and have also completed a rust proofing of all four under arch areas, cavity wax injection will follow shortly. The car recently completed a 600 mile round trip to Cornwall, and averaged around 25MPG on a mixture of 95 and 97 RON fuels.

2 - Jaguar XJ40 3.6

Hibernating for the winter, though I am looking at having it transported on a low loader, to my present address, so that it may live in the garage at my new house, thus allowing me greater access to it.

Hello,

The cupholders are around $71 on US ebay, but you need to check with the seller that they'll ship to the UK. I am still wanting to change all my badges to Cadillac badges, and have looked on US ebay, emailed a couple of people breaking (parting out) cateras, but the badges have usually gone.

I tried the cadillac owners forum, but to no avail.

There are a few US GM suppliers that will supply a range of Cadillac script badges and the crest/wreath badge for a reasonable price.

Another option I have been thinking of, is the change your catera to an Omega option, ie shipping my VX badges to the US, so some mad soul can glue them onto his or her catera, and give me their badges in exchange.

To make the grille fit, you need to cut the bottom part off, as the US bumpers are different and nicer looking IMHO.

Nice looking pair of cars you have Vectrolosys.

Have you managed to get your hands on a cupholder for your car and if so would the seller you bought from be able to get more.

Liking the rebadge did the grill cost much to get sent over, was looking at a catera on ebay yesterday, I dont know why but the brakelight (I think) that runs across the back of the boot looks pretty good.

Hello,

Thanks for the comments, I need to take some photos in its current state, as it's much more rust free now.

Haven't bought any cupholders, though I would like to get hold of some more badges to complete the Cadillac look, and a set of chromed Elite style rims, they'd be nice. The grille was purchased for £13 from Lowrider_dave , who was a member of the other forum. He had a 2.0 Omega that he had Catera'd up. He got the grille in exchange for all his vauxhall omega badges and grille from some guy in the states he had been talking to on the Cadillac owners forum.

Had a look on ebay us and found a grille to fit the facelift for $30, shipped worldwide too, that should fit with no mods, as the facelift Catera shares much with the facelift Omega, though they stuck with the 3.0 V6 and didn't go for the 3.2 .

Just changed the backbox on my 2.5 was hoping to upgrade to a twin tailpipe but VX wanted over £30 T.C. extra for it :o so I stuck to the single pipe

LOL,

It's usually out on Mondays and sometimes at weekends, with traffic the way it is, I tend to cycle in :).

Not to everyones taste, this recent photo shows my recently acquired XJR sport steering wheel (by MOMO, whith Sport logo), gear knob and handbrake sheath. You can get them in grey, but for the full 'Sonny Crockett' effect, I got it in white.

Car is now sat in my mums warm, dry garage, awaiting fitment of the front disks and pads I have for it, plus a strip down and re-grease of the front wheel bearings, and a fluids service. Then it's time for an MOT and summer weekend motoring.

The omega is being used mainly at weekend and washed and polished once a week, weather permitting on the polishing!! It has been partially waxoyled, but shall be fully done in the summer, along with another 5 litres to chuck on the jag.

Current project plans, clean valve block and selector switch, fit ITX pc in place of CD autochanger and rig up touch screen up front, utilise CD autochanger audio inputs if possible.
