Note: This is where the filler neck ends up if you fit metal rocker covers

I spy vectra cam covers, was that a simple job?

Liking the grill and the wheels, nice looking car mate :)

Black over black leather on black wheels. I like it. Very stealthy. Too bad those license plates spoil it. What does the script on the nose say? Do those covers cure the leaking gasket problem?

Thanks

Changing the rocker covers is as easy and doing the normal gasket job with the plastic ones, you just bolt the metal ones down instead and so far it seams to have cured any leaks.
The grill is an irmscher one but the chrome V had been damaged so i cut the plastic hatching out and meshed it.
The wheels were proper MV6 colours but had badly peeled so i sanded them down and rattle canned them gloss black.
The script says 'Bitte ein Bit' which means 'A bit please' referring to Bitburger beer which is brewed near the Nurburgring and you see alot of the Ring Cars and german race cars with that sticker on.

What sealant did you use, if any on the rocker covers?  Also - did you only tighten to 8NM as per the plastic covers or did you go higher?

I used 'Instant Gasket' by Comma which is the black funky smelling one, i just hand tightened the bolts but did them up from opposite corners top make sure the cover went down flat.

:DPeachy mig, luvvit. I'm looking to fit dark wheels to mine at some point, not sure what yet. Still got 4 new michelins i do'nt want to throw in the garage but looking at yours i'm sorely tempted not to wait. Maybe someone would want mine for their gls/select....Anyway, cracking motor.

Tony - the pics make it look better than it is and i had just finished polishing it. Its got the usual rust on the tops of the doors and one of the arches is starting to go quite badly and theres little scratches and dints all over it but my motto is 'if you cant spot it at 100mph then it dont matter'.

Yes it is worth doing. For the money its one of the better tuning mods you can do. It does pick up alot better now and mid-range acceleration is greatly improved. The only side effects are the gear change isn't as smooth but you dont really notice and you get a little gearbox noise from time to time but its nothing to worry about.

Looks nice mate.  Must be a PITA to do an oil change though.  Bet you don't get any mayonaise build up on the filler neck though.
