if anyone has seen some new cameras on A406 southbound from Ilford & A13 westbound in Newham, never seen these before & they face the driver as opposed to other cameras facing away. They look like 4 coke cans on a post. anyone know if they are speed cameras or not :-/
-
Truvelo is normal facing type....
See here for common types - http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/speed-camera-types.htm
-
been on the camera sites but none of them seem to have pix of them, can post a pic later if that helps
-
these are the cameras<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa297/razzo_photo/KY8L0054.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

I wouldn't fancy doing 80 past them!!
-
Not a clue. They look like a similar arrangement to specs. Is it a 5 lane road?
-
no its only 3 lanes
-
what are they situated by? are they near any junctions? traffic signals?
some just measure the flow of traffic, some can detect red light jumpers, some spot car tax, some might just be CCTV
-
its on a 3 lane stretch of A road, no traffic lights & no junctions. They have CCTV cameras covering the road & speed cameras all over the place
-
... you sure they're not missle launchers? ;D
-
Could be average speed cameras, one for each lane. They've been using them on the M25 near the junction with the M11 during the long-term roadworks.

Designed to seek and destroy caravans :D

SPECS look different....

They look like the new specs spike type cameras..

What does that mean? [smiley=undecided.gif]

Have a look here www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/2523.aspx

Cars, motorcycles and small vans are not included in the LEZ.
So I can go and drive up and down that road in my car (the one that doesn't have a catalytic converter!).

Usual Redken bullpoo!
-
So let me get this right. There will be a £1000 per day penalty for (amongst others) "fire engines, motor caravans, ambulances..." that do not pass the modern emissions tests..
This means that, in the event of a fire or ambulance strike, they won't bring out the old green goddesses, etc. or, if they do, and you live in the LEZ, they'll say "yep, we can put out that fire in your house, but you must agree to pay us a grand upfront, mate.
Seems like another great idea, Ken.......... :(
-
That is just ridiculous - fire engines will be OK as they will have the public on their side and peop[le would rather have fires put out than put up with RK

Makes me glad that I don't live anywhere near that London. Have no intention of going anywhere near it either.
Last time I was there I felt like a foreigner anyway.

What part of Cornwall you from then..golfbuddy.. :y
-
Live between St Austell and Newquay. It has definately got it's disadvantages, e.g. miles to the nearest anything :) Nearest city is Plymouth at about 50 miles. Nearest multiplex cinema is in Plymouth, nearest IKEA is in Bristol. But it has got loads of advantages like low crime, clean air, not many speed cameras, beautiful beaches. My daughter can go to the park with her school friends and we are not scared to death that she won't come back. In fact, she can have the childhood that we did.
Must admit that I was born in London, well Middlesex, well Perrivale to be precise. My Grandmother still lives in London but it is such a hole, IMHO, that I just won't go back.
The last time I went there was a couple of years ago. Took my daughter who was about 7 at the time and was amazed that the majority of people were not of British origin. In fact, I would go so far as to say that a white face was a surprising sight. Now, I'm not saying that some ethnic diversity is a bad thing, we have people from Devon and Cornwall here and there is even one fella from Somerset although noone talks to him, but for to feel like a foreigner in one's own capital city says to me that we have got the balance wrong. There are a number of people that I work with who have never been to that London and have no desire to do so.
Add to that the nonsense that I see with congestion charging, emission zones, Millennium Domes, Olympic Stadia and so on and so on and I am glad that I live in a part of the country where you can still be proud to be British and not be afraid to speak your mind for fear of upsetting some ethnic minority who are now the ethnic majority. I reckon that some of the scots guys will know what I mean.
Ooh errr. Rant over >:( >:( >:(

I love Wales, having worked there for a number of years when I was 'on the road'. I reckon you guys are the friendliest and made the best work friends in that part of the world, i.e. Cardiff, Newport, Caerphilly, Pontypridd etc etc.
Sorry your not able to come down this year but you know you can fly from Cardiff to Newquay now dead cheap as well. I did it a few weeks ago and it is the only way to travel. If you wanted to take this option anytime, let me know and I could collect you at the airport and take you to wherever you wanted to go :)
-
Used to have to go to Cardiff regularly for work, always started raining as soon as I crossed the bridge and paid my money.
Been there a few times on hols, but Mrs TheBoy always wants to look around ruined castles....

......

My daughter flew to Newquay on Friday to meet up with about 40 of her college mates for a weeks holiday - God help the locals!! ;D ;D Considering the weather last Friday it really was the ONLY way to travel. Aboout £90 return from Manchester IIRC.

St Ives has got to be the best place in the world. We have booked three weeks at Polmanter with the caravan. 8-) 8-)

Back on topic I own a small catering company based in merseyside.A couple of weeks ago I received a letter plus a glossy expensive to produce brosure informing me about the stricter regulations regarding emmitions of delvery vehicals in London, being northwest based I have never delivered in the London area nor do I forsee working in London in the forseable future.
I presume they have got my details from some business data base, which bodes the question how many other businesses has this mailshot gone out to?I shudder to think how much this exercise has cost presumably the council tax payers of London for what I think in most cases will be a totally erelevant piece of junk mail :o

Sorry to hear that but the offer still stands if she makes a speedy recovery. In any case, there's always next year. Cornwall's not going anywhere soon :)

Holidays well that is a busy thing we are starting at Wareham near Poole to recce that area, then after 3 days head to Falmouth, we tried to get in a Bude CL for one night no luck so try that next year.
The following holiday will be at New Quay in Wales, so lock up my water pump :(. (had our main one knicked - on my backup one now)
We have been to Saundersfoot and Tenby a few times - lovely there too!
So any members around in those areas in the holidays can PM me if interested

Blimey, Helston to St Austell would be considered a major expedition down here. People tend not the venture far from home. Even Truro is a day out to most people. It really is a slower way of life down here.
-
Right then, back on topic, sort of. Lets hope that Ken Livingstone gets booted out of his job as mayor and Boris Johnson gets in. I'm not sure that he would be any better but Mayoral questions on the Parliament Channel would be a scream. In fact, I bet it would make prime time tv ;D ;D ;D

Young ones are different, my cousin was driving regularly from Mawnan to St Austell to see his then GF until she moved nearer and are now married, unfortunately retired non-locals are blocking planning permission for their house, so they may get a pigsty in that location instead (cousin & uncle are farmers)

That is one thing that really winds me up. People move into an area and then try to impose their will on it. There are loads of non locals on the local and county councils. Why bother coming if all you want to do is change things? I'm not a local and know that I will always be an incomer. I am more that happy to go with the flow, thats what living in a place like Cornwall is all about.
-
That is quite bad actually - are the large amounts of houses being bought as holiday homes, and the lack of affordable housing for the young people.
Farmers are not well paid, yet house prices are pretty high, so where do the youlg people live?
I have nothing against holiday complexes* but 2nd and 3rd homes in villages are killing some villages.
Where my mum grew up is now getting filled with retired people - I don't blame them, but agin there is insufficient housing. As to new houses, I have seen two new estates around Falmouth - in one prices were about 5% higher than around here, the other was holiday homes only. 10 month occupancy rule.
* Except when they want exclusive use of a beach - there are a couple of battles I know of.
-
We have just put some ballustrading in to some flats in Falmouth, at the National Maritime Museum complex. The flats started at £250k for a one bedroom place.
Starting salaries in Cornwall are in the region of £13k. So, if a couple are both on this sort of money they would need to get a mortgage of 10 times salary. Not a chance.
Most of the guys who work for us either have to rent or stay with parents. They just don't stand a chance of getting on the housing ladder.
Go to most coastal towns and villages in the winter and they are empty. Second or third homers have taken all of the traditional fishermans or miners cottages that once would have been there for first time buyers.
What's the answer? I don't have a clue.
