Title: My 2001 Cadillac Catera Sport
Post by: elvin315 on 27 January 2007, 16:04:54
These are dealer shots of my Catera Sport. I haven't done anything to her except polish the haze from the headlight lenses, buy some embroidered floormats, and add my XM Satellite Radio on a gooseneck floor mounting similar to the old Blaupunkts of the 70s. If and when I do any modifications I'll post new pictures.

Offer your Vauxhall or Opel grilles on these Catera sites. Some owners here might want to trade. Badges too. You can also find Cats being parted out there.

eBay is another good source. Don't forget to check eBay express & stores.

PS: The reason for the front license plate filler is that not all states require front plates. I bought the car in Florida which doesn't but live in New York which does.

It's a facelift (bonnet and doors) I reckon an Irmsher grill would look nice on that.

3.0 DBW though - didn't know they had made them!

I forgot to mention that the cupholders are standard equipment however we sacrifice any potential storage space in the armrest. I don't know if it's widespread but mine will not stay retracted. They latch but eventually slide open. Very annoying.

What exactly is "DBW"?

DBW = Drive By Wire

It basically means there is no throttle cable in the engine bay, the throttle is controlled by the ECU.

Here in the UK the 3.0 engines where never made DBW, this was only on the 2.2 / 2.6 / 3.2 engines.

Forgot to add nice car, those alloys are usually on the "Elite" model here, the Sport get slightly different alloys here in the UK.

One thing is strange, you get oil pressure gauges on your dash where we get a display.

This is the dash of our Omega's

Drive By Wire as fitted to the later engines* - I am surprised your 3.0 is as they never were here

2.2 2.6 3.2

I prefer the European dash with display.

Thought they were Elite wheels.

How often to Catera owners pop over to see us?

I had a look at the Catera site and found Mark DTM there :)

I mentioned in my intro to the Forum that I ride a Kawasaki Concours (GTR1000). Thought I'd drop a picture of her here in case anyone was interested.

She's dirty after a 5 hour slog through a spring downpour. The road behind her is one we call "The Hawk's Nest". It's perched about 100 feet above the Delaware River near Port Jervis, NY. It's a favorite of sport bikers and sports car drivers alike for obvious reasons.

The spoiler and Elite style wheels, along with a matte silver grille, are the exterior marks of the Catera Sport package. Inside we get matte silver trim instead of woodgrain. That's just the sizzle. The steak is the sport calibrated suspension, probably equivalent to the MV6. The spoiler isn't much different than the ones Irmscher or Steinmetz sell. Probably useless as an aerodynamic aid. I sort of prefer the smaller rear spoiler the MV6 has but to me it's not worth the expense to switch.

Red indicators....not entirely legal on post '65 ish cars here, but my 'stock' '84 Trans Am gets away with them... ;)

The indicators are the white lenses at the extreme corners. They glow yellow when flashing. The white lenses on the boot lid are the backup lights. The red portions are tail/brake lights.

Ah right, so they would be perfectly legal over here.....would make a subtle modification if the same size/fit.. :y

Swapping Omega tail lights for Catera units isn't as easy as it seems. For both the pre-facelift and facelift Omegas you would need the Catera trunk lid.

The pre-facelift Catera (97-99) had a full width light/reflector lid that would work with the Omega lights because both cars share the outer units .

http://www.pbase.com/elvin315/image/72882713

This owner used an Omega boot lid with lights to give his custom Catera a rear fascia unique on this side of the Pond.

Facelift Omegas lid lights had rounded corners versus the 2000-2001 Catera's sharper ones. The outer units of both cars are shaped the same so the Catera units should slip right in but a little body work would be necessary to reshape the lid's cutouts to accept the Catera units. That or buy a facelift Catera lid.

Some trouble but would be a nice custom trick for the Omega though.

Thank you. I like her too. The Catera is basically an Omega Elite. Mine, being a Catera Sport, is also equipped with the MV6 suspension pieces. All Cats are 3.0 V6/4 speed autos. The Sport comes standard with Elite 17 inch wheels and the rear wing. I prefer your spoiler but it would cover the center mounted brake light in the boot lid. Inside, the faux wood is replaced by satin silver trim.

The lights you mentioned are called cornering lights. They come on with the turnsignals. They don't blink, and are supposed to illuminate the turn. Their output is meager so I don't see how they can warn you of anything. Besides, my eyes are already focused through the turn. I think they're a useless piece of fluff.

One of these days I'll have to upload new pictures. My car now has a black mesh grill with a Cadillac crest & wreath. I also bought a different set of alloy wheels, similar to the Steinmetz,  to use with my snow tires. If my son ever returns my camera I'll be sure to post pictures.

Is your sport rated suspension self-levelling like it is on the Elite?

Is there such a thing as a Catera boot/trunk lid with no high level brake LED?

I reckon that someone in the US on those sites you mention would be up for a straight swap for an Omega boot lid and rear light clusters.

Yes, it's self-leveling.

No, all Cateras have the center mounted brake light.

True, but the shipping costs would be ridiculous. Not worth it to me. I like the LED strip. I wrote about swapping lids in the thread below. Pictures too.
