Computer question guys.
I've just bought a dvd writer to add to my pc, and would like to add it to my existing dvd rom drive. I have a spare bay, and the ide ribbon cable has an extra plug on it, so no probs there, however I don't know how to configure the plug on the back that selects slave, master or cable select. Currently set to CS.
The HDD is on a seperate SATA(?) plug
What do I need to do?
-
It should work on slave.. :y
-
Which? The new one as slave and the existing one as CS?
-
Existing on =Master
New = Slave..
-
OK Thanks.

Personally I would swap it out and ditch the dvd-rom. Just do a straight swap.

Bit difficult if he wants to do a dvd to dvd copy.lol

You can still copy dvd"s with 1 drive,,Create an image recorder on your hard drive... :y..lol

It depends on the IDE cable fitted. If its a Cable Select IDE cable, set both drives to CS.
If its not a Cable Select IDE cable, set one to MA and other to SL, doesn't matter which way round.

I don't know about the different cable types but on as master and one as slave seems to work.
-
As long as 1 is master and 1 is slave they will be fine. Doesn't matter too much on cd/dvd drives.

I thought that it was recommended for CD / DVD Writers to be on the master channel on IDE?

Makes no difference.
Cqable Select (CS) cables have their connectors labelled.
