Title: American Tail Lights... Night PICs.
Post by: CateraMV6 on 05 January 2008, 17:23:01
Rear parking lights...

Brake lights with parking lights on... Mind you only the outside lights light up when the brakes are pressed.

Here is the back up lights...

Here are the turn signals out back... they are LED and they light up very rapidly, and they look very cool because they loook white when they are not on...

Front end DRL lights...

Front end DRL and Parking lights...

Front end DRL parking and FOG lights...

HID lights paired with the fog lights and the parking lights...
Mine are getting old so the color is changing to a very blue like and so on they will probably turn purple, also I can tell a decreased light output from the increase in color temperature due to the age of the bulbs...

Thanks for posting ! Thats looking great  :y

Are the turn lights at the front always on ?
And what function has the outside fog light at the front ?
What is DRL ?
Has the Catera no headlight cleaners ? The Omega has with Original Xenon HID, automatic height/low leveling and high pressure water jets.

In Europe we don't have the extra lights  ::)

No. We call them Parking Lights. They turn on with the switch in the middle position and with the headlights.

And what function has the outside fog light at the front ?
We call those Cornering Lights. They come on with the Turn Signal Lights to illuminate the turn. A stupid waste. American carmakers consider them a luxury feature.

What is DRL ?
Daytime Running Lights. They are always on, supposedly to increase our visual presence to other drivers. I say if they can't see a car without them they shouldn't be driving. After sunset you see many cars with the DRLs on but without tail lights on. These idiots see the faint glow of the DRLs, assume the true headlights are on, and forget to turn on their full lighting.

No washer jets.

You're not missing anything. I'd trade all the extra crap for the Washers.

Yep, Elvin I couldnt have said it better myself...

Ohhh BTW those side lights are a cheaper version of the pivoting headlights... which we all know cost a fortune but with thees you achieve a similar effect with a simple 21Watt bulb... not bad if you ask me I didnt like em at first but once I got used to them I miss them terribly especially when I drive a car without them....

I do however wish our HID projectors had a sharper cutoff line and more color but it is what it is, I cant afford to try and modify them because new ones are bloody expensive...  otherwise BiXenon kit will be in the making...

We hired a Pontiac Grande Prix the year before last in Florida. You could do various things with the lights via the trip computer. ie You could have the reverse light turn on if it was dark as you armed/disarmed the alarm. You could also turn the DRL's on or off via it too. The main lights turned themselves on when it was dark too - more cars should have this. (I know it's becoming a popular addition to top marque cars here)

We have extra at the back though. ;) Rear fog/high intensity lamps - those lamps that get turned on once a year for the MOT (Yearly vehicle road worthy check) and maybe one other time when it's gently raining on the motorway!  >:(

well you will need the entire lid to get those tail lights, as the one you guys have is entirely steel and does not have the 3rd tail in it... we do however and I looked into swapping the lids with one of you guys but that will cost quite a bit of money and I doubt the colors will match...

Note that the american Catera Tail light not wil fit in our OEM Omega trunklid ! the two outside tail light will fit, no problem, but the two lights in de trunklid dont fit.

The trunklid from the Catera is diffrent:

I wish I could turn the washer jets off. Driving in winter with the headligts on, you can empty the washer bottle (or should I say forward ballast tank!) in less than an hour. ::)

Yes, but can you not just swap the complete catera trunklid including lights for the omega trunklid and then fit the outer tail lights

Swapping Omega tail lights for Catera units isn't as easy as it seems. For both the pre-facelift and facelift Omegas you would need the corresponding Catera trunk (Boot) lid. The pre-facelift Catera (97-99) had a full width light/reflector on the lid that would work on the Omega because both cars share the identical fender (wing) mounted units . The Omega's white portion seems a little darker but a spray of tint would bring the Cadillac strip to match. One owner over here converted his pre-facelift Catera with a Vauxhall trunklid which, as I said earlier, is comparitively easy. Converting an Omega would be the same.

pre-facelift Catera:

pre-facelift Vauxhall:

pre-facelift Catera w/Vauxhall trunklid:

Facelift cars are a bit trickier. Of course you'll first need a Catera trunk lid. Next, the lights on both cars have the red and white portions reversed so you would need the Catera's fender mounted units as well as the lid mounted ones in order to match. Also, our turnsignals are LEDs. Don't know if there's a difference in the wiring but that shouldn't be a problem. Then there's the center mounted brake light strip, which is what you guys really want right? For you guys with lip mounted spoilers, that pretty strip of LEDs will be covered. You'll either need to convert to the wing style spoiler or forgo it altogether.

No the LED brake light is hideous in my opinion and would be the last thing, along with the wing spoiler that I would want on my car.

What I do like is the rear light clusters. There are other differences in the boot (trunk) lids:

The Catera has no handle, but does have a line (indented) which continues around from the line running down the side of the car, along the line at the top of the rear light cluster and accross the boot lid.

On the Omega the curved corner of the top inside of the rear light clusters is where that side indent line is drawn down to the bumper and it does not continue around the back of the car.

What I'd like to get to is a Catera light cluster and boot lid, with the long LED brake light smoothed out and maybe even the indent trim line smoothed out, and then a standard Omega boot lid lip spoiler.

No chrome. :y

What concerns me is this though:

Does this mean that a rear light conversion would leave you with no fog lamps and therefore illegal and unable to blind people on a rainy motorway?

It looks like the rear lights on the rear wings would need adapting to make the Catera lights to fit , but any competant body shop panel beater should manage it !! , It would be best to get the overall dimensions of the tail lights first and work out whether the lights will fit at all !! 8-)

Can anyone confirm if the catera bootlid has foglights? They look so much better and is that a break light in the lip?

No, the Catera does not have fog lights in the rear clusters.

Yes, that long high mounted LED strip is the high level brake light.

Ok here we go... these should help...

I think if you get the rear pannel and you remove some of the screws you may be able to somehow glue it on the OMEGA trunk lid...

seems to have enough clearance.
