Title: Project Veccy - big update - it runs!!
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 18 July 2007, 21:23:07
Spent some time on the Veccy since last posting, may as well take advantage of the lovely sunshine.

Block all cleaned up.
Cylinder head fitted and torqued down.
Inlet manifold fitted
Petrol injectors fitted
Throttle body fitted
Exhaust Manifold fitted
PAS pump refitted
Rear timing cover fitted
Cambelt kit and waterpump fitted
Crank pulley re-fitted
Alternator fitted
Aux belt fitted
Thermostat housing fitted
Exhaust secured and lambda sensor refitted.
Cam sensor refitted
LPG system completely re-plumbed.
All electricals re-routed and connected.
Cam-cover re-fitted.
Spark plugs fitted.
Coil pack fitted.
Vac pipes connected
All cooling hoses connected
Coolant flush, oil and filter change.
Recitify dodgy injector wire.

Idles beautifly, and runs on all it's cylinders, on both petrol and gas. Have been for a 7 mile run, and all is totally well.

Snags:

Cambelt idler pulley bolt stripped off in the head. Not my fault, it wasn't crossed, and just wouldn't do up - pulled all the thread out with it. I managed to get around this by re-threading the hole, and improvising a new bolt and washer for the pulley.

Thermostat gasket supplied was the wrong one, so this is leaking. I'll get a new one from Vx, 5 mins to fit.

May need a new camcover.

Need to double check the vacc pipe arrangements, I'll research this when I'm not so knackered. I also believe there is a VERY small air leak somewhere, I couldn't locate it on a short look. It's no biggie - I could have come across much worse!

Anyway, after a hard 5 hours slogging under the bonnet, she fired up first time, without as much as a fault light. Didn't think I did too bad there.

Off to get some LPG and be pampered by the lady now, a 70 mile drive should put it through it's paces. Followed by some consumption of some BEER - I'm bloody chuffed.....  8-)

Disgraceful that the kids today drive like they do - I feel its role reversal from when I was his age, and it was us youngster racing around everywhere, and the 30/40 somethings driving too slow  :-/

I think it is the modern indoctrination of learners - remember when we learnt breaking the speed limits by small margins was acceptable and that you were more likely for failing by going around 25 than 35
