Getting a bit downhearted this summer what with the rise in fuel etc. My V6 is costing about £70/week in fuel to commute to Aberdeen and just been stung (in last couple of months) for ...
1. Front disks + front and rear pads (£180)
3. Rear box (£90)
4. Both middle exhausts (£130 +VAT)
5. Track rod and tracking set (£45)
6. 2 front tyres (£130 + VAT)
Plus I got the car back from the garage and the glove compartment mysteriously will not shut and now the clasp is broken (although I have read an excellent post on here about how to fix that).
Tried bravely to get a trade in price for a Diesel Signum and was offered £500 so I backed away.
Biggest panic now is a timing belt break - that would finish me off :(
Had a thought - you could buy cheap high miles Mig's from ebay just for cheap spares!

In answer to the question I think the only thing I can say is a definate YES......owning an Omega is well worth it.
The running costs of ALL cars is generally on the increase these days and in my opinion an Omega offers a fantastic balance of comfort, space, purchase price and reliabillity against running costs.
For sure, every car can go wrong from time to time, but I have had 2 Omegas now and have found them overall extremely trustworthy and reliable.
If it really is getting too much to run, why not downsize to a 2.0litre or even a diesel? Although according to Parkers the 2.0 is only 3-5 mpg more economical than the v6!!
As for the cambelt going, well with the help of a member on here I have just had mine changed for around 140 inc. water pump so its not the end of the world.
Chin up mate, they are great cars.

well despite of having auto g/boxes in & out for the last week or so [including today] & still have a slight oil leak i still think the car is the dogs gonads!, cheap to run [diesel] & being chipped it goes like a scolded cat, any other car would have been squashed by now if id had this trouble, & as they say,,,,,,better the devil you know,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Yeah if I'm only getting offered £500 considering what I have spent on it I am keeping it. Just hoping my run of bad luck is over.
I remember seeing a Black (Manual) 3.0 MV6 at a garage in Aberdeen just before I got this one 18 months ago - was so tempted at the time but considering fuel costs and my really needing my license to commute to work.... still, can't help wondering how good that would have been ;D
thankfully this site has great guides and tips, already managed to get a working key fob for first time in months (woohoo!) and will be fixing the glove compartment soon hopefully.
Might even stretch to doing something about the CD Safe autochanger issue.

£70 a week in fuel .. thats 62 ltrs which is 13.6 gallons which is about 350 miles a week ??
LPG it and you'll save 10p/mile. Cost of LPG DIY is £800 ish so takes 8000 miles to "pay" for itself .. thats 22 weeks... 5 1/2 months .. after which you'll be saving £140 a month .... :)

Its about 400 miles/week - it probably works out more than £70 as I fill it 3 times a fortnight roughly if you know what I mean and I tend to run it down to about 20-30 miles left in tank usually.
Not sure about lpg. Funnily enough i was running my Fronterra 2.2 Sport for a couple of weeks and it uses less petrol! Not as fast or comfortable though obviously.

I've had mine LPG'd for 4 months now ... well pleased .. and it towed me to the South of France, up a 3500 ft lump with the 'van on the back, and up to 5500 ft solo ... narry a twinge :)
The only way you know its on gas is to look at the light and your wallet :)
According to my spreadsheet I have saved £550 in 4 months .. and I only do 1000 miles a month normally .. did a few more on holiday !! ... if I had gone the DIY route it would almost have paid for itself already :y :y :y
-
£20 - £30 per week in lpg, most around town, but of late it's had a few runs.
coming back from DeiselDeans yesterday, I was talking to Markey Mark on the phone and ... Towing a trailer with the new tractor engine,(HEAVY) an engine hoist, full compliment of tools at 50mph, inst consumtion was showing 38 - 46 mpg on gas with an average of 32mpg over 200 miles of mainly A roads.
Yes owning a MIG is worth every penny, and YES going down the LPG route is a NO BRAINER
-
Owning a Mig... Is it worth it?
Absolutely, and LPG is a no-brainer too. To match my running costs a petrol car would need to be doing 39.6 MPG and a diesel around 42 MPG on mixed urban / extra-urban driving.
Show me a car with 218 BHP, auto gearbox, comfort and performance matching the Omega that achieves that. We're talking something pretty "sit up and beg", then. ;D
Yes, they have their fair share of niggles. For a 5 year old car I'm not that happy with mine in that respect, TBH, but it's worth it, I reckon.

yeah omegas do have their niggles, it's only like other cars... i spose atleast parts are cheap if you know where to get them
in my opinion omegas seem to last quite well(mines 15 year old and it has got/had the rust along windows) but i'v since been gradually sorting it out and the rust that i got rid of properly hasnt come back!
-
As far as the cost of spares goes, there are plenty of people on here with vauxhall trade club cards - they will all be only to willing to buy the parts for you at the trade price.

Sorry mate, you'll have to try harder than that! Those are all standard consumable parts on EVERY car!! Just so happens it's all come at once :(
...those tyres were quite good value though! :y
Stick with it mate, there is no more comfortable, faster, smoother and classier car out there for the money ;)
OH, and consider this, it's £3.50 on the bus to go anywhere from where we live add to this a day-return ticket to leeds at £11.50 and that's fifteen quid and 3hrs a day on public transport! Enjoy your migster dude :y
