color is OK.. Dark colors very hard to keep clean..

S70 T5 or C70 good choice..Acceleration times are impressive..

but be warned parts are not cheap..

lol i know, they're not too bad if you know somebody at a dealers or have VOC membership to get trade ;)

and yes they are quite quick (takes the s70 t5 upto bout 300bhp after remapping it)

T5's can devour front tyres....  Seen new premium make tyres lasting less than 2.5k miles when driven hard.....

why not put the money to better use, like a minted omega, £1k will get you a seriusly nice mini facelift, or a decent spec v6 faclift at a push.

better the devil you know!  ;)

so thats what they do with all the leftover custard cream mix??

altho a fast car the 850R is, look how dated it looks, its basically a facelift 940.. wheres all those sexy curves that the miggy has?
Title: Re: going to the darkside...maybe
Post by: ngrainqey on 25 January 2009, 20:06:22
lol i know what you mean but idk just fancy a change, no blocked breather 'dangle berries', no cam cover gaskets need changing
only think is servicing and then they go forever and its 90k between cambelts!

..oh yeah... the 850 isnt the best volvo - it resembles a flying brick in R form lol!

atleast the s60 looks less like it was designed with a cereal box and scalotape!

aye but at least the volvo used to look like a volvo. distinctive, you knew what it was, those sidelights always on, that boxy exterior. now theyre just mondeos without the gaffa tape.

anyway volvo t5's for example have 250ish bhp then about 300 remapped and even the 2.0t s60 has 180 bhp
it remaps to 250! lol

They said on Top Gear a while back that 250bhp was about as much that was usable in wrong wheel drive mode.  Personally I prefer the older volvo's, the 7 and 8 series.

S60's are nice cars, the sound of the 5 cylinder almost compares to that of a V6. I've driven a 2005 facelifted one, manual 2.0T SE and it was a real joy. I believe the earliest S60 available is on a 2000 X plate. Then in late 2004 on a 54 they introduced a facelift version. The 'S' spec cars have manual climate control, and the the 'SE' have automatic with the temperature like the Omega's do. A family member owns an S60, on his second one now and he loves it. And before you say 'oh dear a coffin dodgers car' it really isn't.

thats my second choice to the s60 2.0t due to slightly more insurance(but still less than a 3.0 omega for some reason)

Girls? Volvo? Does not compute... ;)

On a serious note, I'd have any of the T5s, but I'd never swap my Omega for one... IYSWIM.

got a C70 turbo coupe on my drive at the moment, trying to sell it for the Father in law. Had to re con the Throttle body, on its second now. Failed mot on front pass side wishbone now sorted, piece off p to change. Not a great example tbh but it goes, once moving. Fairly sure my 3.2 would be long gone with rear wheel drive.

lol tbh im just after a 2.0t as a reliable knock about instead of the tank that seems to want something looking at or changing before it's driveable :-S

i could buy alot of omega.. i could buy that ex plod 54 3.2 but it'll probably want something doing and i dont want it to end up like the last one that decided to self harm haha!
(im thinking it's bottom end)

im pretty sure the bottom ends dead in my omega, dont think it's pistons though tbh think it's on the crank/bearings!

oh yeah... the s60 timing belt is more than double the omegas :P so save some money there and also instead of the two idlers and a tensioner there's only 1 idler and the tensioner fits on a small sheet mounting plate almost

150 for the kit with water pump if you know somebody at volvo like there is on the volvoforums.org.uk ;)

which is faster than shit of a shovel! lmao
it keeps up with my mates remapped vrs (about 250/260 bhp)
and the volvos only 200bhp and 285nm of torque hehe!

i'll post some pics up when i'v scribbled out the number plate lol

It's ex police but he says he only wants 1200 quid for it only prob is trip computer doesn't work. It's a bargin though it shouldn't be much different from my old V70. They're pretty bullet proof to be honest as long as timing belt is changed at I think 90K miles or 9 years and they like good oil in them. It looks pretty clean though and he said he'd take the 1200 just don't know if I wanna chance getting it off ebay  :-/

for what it's worth your better buying volvos off autotrader...
they tend to be better cars on there whereas ebay is reserved more for cars that they just want gone or dont want to have to pay as much for the add... if it's worth the cost of an autotrader add then it should be a better car
(plus there's loads of V70's on AT)
there's even a couple of new shape V70's for under 2500!

Yeah it's a new shape, but 1200 quid just seems a bit odd to me? If I were to go up there after saying yes to the deal can't do nothing about it. But it looks ok apart from some stupid badge on the back anyway have a look lol: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=320335894408

it'll be worth asking if he's got any bills and also if he can find out what police force used it, also the bills for the timing belt if it was him that had it changed
and also ask why he's only after that much money
theres a white estate on autotrader, check if its the same one (just put in white and national in the more options

omg somebody has a complexion about volvos.... maybe i was just waiting for somebody to back their car out of the garage so i could pull mine straight in to do an oil change?
why would i want to park the car, get out, walk 20 yards just to watch him back out to then walk 20 yards to get back in the car, reverse 20 yards then out into the road so i could get it round (as they have pants amount of lock) and into the garage?

have you ever actually driven a ford volvo S60?

am i old?
...hardly

anyway the only one i actually broke was my 2.0 because i decided to swap the 2.0 lump for a 2.5 and i couldnt get that to run because i couldnt find the immobiliser box, the black one i got broken, got it to start then it decided that it didnt like that so something popped and then it dumped its coolant, the 2.6 was broken to begin with but couldnt be arsed to sort it out so bought a running ex plod 3.0 which decided to spit its crank bearings i think... out

so it's not really a case of me breaking things... it's called... vauxhallitus :P

color is OK..

They're FWD's !?! :o
Well, that's the end of that then. Would have considered a Gold or Silver S70 diesel as a replacement for the Mig when the time came.
RWD or switchable 4WD....none of this FWD malarkey if I can avoid it.

you can also check AWD scooby sti's if you want performance and safety on all road conditions..their prices are dropped also here.. :)

when I check their second hand prices 2002,2003 are not that expensive..

right.. you do not have to be old to own a volvo and secondly you CAN get an s60 4wd or even a v70 4wd...
if you want a 4wd then you need to be looking at an S60R (300 bhp and remaps to 350bhp) which is more than a scooby

or you can get the 4wd V70 but check which engines have it on parkers :y

lol how much would it cost to map it to 450bhp though?

mines as fast as a remapped octavia vrs (apparently 255-260bhp) just a bit lacking in mid-range, keeps up with it in mid range mind,
and if my volvo hasnt been remapped already then thats 200bhp and 285nm of torque and it's as fast as a car with 260ish bhp and about 350nm of torque-takes some beating for less than 2000 pounds!

Certainley is a nice car you've got yourself there. And Volvo's are definitely not only for old people as someone put it. I'm 19, I've got a 2.2 CDX but did toy with the idea of an S60. But I swear to god, Volvo S60's are damn fine cars. I have driven one, it goes stops and does everything you could ever want and then some. So if you've never driven a Volvo I can see why some people might think it's a coffin dodgers car, but if you do...go and drive one.

lets just put it this way, i'm glad i'v gone to the darkside tbh as it just seems like a better put together car than the omega, although the omega is rear wheel drive, i'd still have one but not for everyday driving after what i had happen with the mv6
