Hi folks
Markie projects have always surrounded Rovers.
Now its time to play with big boys toys :D
Been looking for Problem Omegas locally to fix and sell.
Finally may have found one in local paper.
Its a facelift 1999 2.0cd auto with lpg conversion.....
Bit rough and requires Engine !?! quite why i am still looking into....
Questions/
I know the answer i guess to this one already
1. I have a spare 2.5 v6 engine/gearbox lying around from prefacelift - i presume this wont be compatible unless i change everything around will it? And i do mean everything from looms to ecus - in that case too much hassle ?
2.Are ALL facelifts fly by wire - or just later ones?
3.MR IMBER if your around......talk to me re lpg :) what should i be looking for here re the installation and potential pitfalls?
I am awaiting some info on a call back from owner today re the engine issues so untill i know that i dont know if i will go and fetch it.....wont be paying much and i think he reckons its worth a bit!!

...oh i should have said the spare gearbox i have is a`25 and in great condition - what would be in the 4 pot one?

2.2, 2.6 and 3.2 are drive by wire (as are all the diesels). Others are cable.

so thats one issue out the way then so theoretically my 2.5 lump should go in without any major compatibility issues....getting intresting this one ;

Have to agree, would be an awful lot of work.
The advert in your paper rings a bell, I remember a V plate Facelift Estate going though eBay, saying it was LPG converted but did't have an engine!
If you see this car Markiec, and its silver & missing its engine - then i suspect thats its being sold on again :-/
On the up side its a CD model, so easier to sell than the basic GLS...

I have all the parts in good order.
Depends on what comes back re the "broken" engine -if its possibly fixable, rebuild etc
Its very local and i can get it picked up free.
I am looking at this under £500 purchase price....remember a facelift 1999 with full lpg in the estate it may be worth keeping for the wife and those pesky horses.....
As for the lot of work - best way to learn ;)

The one i saw was silver... so thats good. The one i saw was up north too, but its not the one i saw on eBay.
Good luck, if you can get it for less than £500 would be a bargin! :)

ok, engine is already out which saves some work, not sure if all ancilliaries are also out.
Awaiting some pictures of it - an estate too.
Apparently hg failure and potentially bottom end damage on disposed engine.....hmmmm

GOOD project. But, I would remove the LPG and sell all that crap. Then drop the 2.5 in and make it into a real Omega again. You would nee ECU, immobiliser and all that stuff from the 2.5. Also, the radiator etc and all hoses, but otherwise it is straight forward.
All depends on how much it is now and what it is worth when done.
Other option of course is to just drop a good 2.0 back in!

I am really swaying on this one right now and i think i will go see it - problem is its will be weekend (earliest) due to some work commitments.
I knew i would need the fob, ecu etc and the good thing about the 2.5 cdx i have is .....its mechanicals are outstanding and i have a folder full of reciepts and servicing.
I also have my father here from today so i reckon betwen us and the new hoist and huge garage - it may be a go - er...
What would everyone say is a realistic price for an engineless 1999 v reg facelift 2.0 ?

I've got a 2.0 16v Ecotec engine in my garage that I'm not intending doing anything with. It has suspect bottom end issues, (It could well be ok though!!), but the top end is sound AFAIK.
It's yours for the taking if you want it for parts.
Let me know if you want any more info..

dont think its going to come off though as we are about £300 apart in our discussions - and i aint budging....

No i gave up on it - i only buy scrape-the-bottom-of-the-barre-price cars. Guys wanted more towards a "resonable" price.
Think it was the equally sublime Falkirk....any ideas what it sold for ? surely it cant be coincidence two enginless omegas in the same area..?

I think its been bought by the latest Scot on here - Mijfife. Dunno what he paid though. He certainly describes it as in bits with head type problems another engine in the back?

y`know what - sounds very very like the same car....hmmmm
Intrested to know what he paid for it if it ever comes out - one i was looking at had suspect top end problems - sounds like a new engine rather than arebuilt from what i heard. Shame as i have a spare 2.5 to lump in it....

I'm back - had the caravan water pump stolen but the camp site also owned a gas dealer who did autogas at 40p/litre
