Hi LSG, wife was driving an 02 2.2CD owned from 4 months. She only keeps a car for 3 years and wanted to change to a 3.2 Signum of similar age. The local dealer was hopeless being not particurlarly interested in making any effort to find a car.
Had to drive then to a nearby VW dealer where she looked at a new Passat estate but wanted the auto DSG box. The dealer again was not really interested and could not even offer a test drive in any type of Passat.
On the way home she went into the local Toyota dealer, looked at the Prius, was taken on a test drive by a well informed and helpful, salesman and promptly ordered one. Arrived 9 weeks later and has been trouble free and enjoyable to drive since.
In short, she wanted to buy a car that day. Plain and simple as that. TBH she would had another Omega had they been in production. For flexibility she was looking for an estate, so in the absence on the Omega the Signum would have fitted the bill. The Prius is hatchback so it worked for her. It was not an entirely flippant purchase however, she had already done some research knowing that another Omega wasn't on the cards.
Prius is fully loaded, group 7 ins, £15/yr duty and turns in between 52 and 56 mpg without difficulty and a breeze to drive :y :y
