Title: What would you take to France
Post by: Weds on 16 July 2007, 16:57:10
Not wishing to carry on about another member of our forums unfortunate experiences, but next month I'm off to France with the Omega down to the Alps.

What does the collective think is the bare minimum you should take on a long journey.

Top of my list is a CPS

Well apart from the crank sensor (make sure its the right one as well), the following are either legally required or strongly recommended:

Warning triangle
Hi visibility jerkins for each passenger
Spare bulb kit
First aid kit
Green card

I also take tow rope, jumpleads, and compressor.  Towing is illegal on the French tow roads, so breakdown cover essential.

Dont get caught speeding or Euros dont go far, more like a mortgage you need to satisfy them..

Trust me i know, Ok it was the germans but they are all the same..

Have a good time and say hello to the Alps for me.. ;D ;D

He he. Was in a kit car convoy on a french motorway a couple of years ago. Bloke in front got a fair way ahead. Traffic eased so I decided to close the gap, well into 3 figures.

Tail end charlie behind me maxed out at about 90, just to see a Gendarme filtering onto the road on a motorbike  :o

He got frog(!)-marched to a cash point to make amends.

Guess I dodged a bullet that day  ::)

I have done 3 euro round trips 5000miles each and i never had anything other than a litre of oil in the bood and a european breakdown cover. But again my car was the dogs b******s 8-).
Make sure you service it before you start the trip and flush the rad and put fresh coolant in.
You see my belief is that if something is to happen it will and due to sods law you won't have the required bits or tools to fix it. Just enjoy yourself the omega will enjoy itself too.

I think the coolant flush was where my problems keeping the water in the rad began!  :'(  I know it ended with a bloody hole in my wallet  :'( .  :y

Now I don't know if this is right but my wife was channel hopping then started laughing - she was on C4 and there were twin girls - like Kirsty and Kaycee from Bratz (Timbuk will know them) the Tweevilsl (http://www.thebratzpad.com/tweevil.html). The only thing missing was the plaster on one of their noses.

I have just killed your fantasy haven't I? ;D ;D
