Come on then, someone enlighten me, and tell me what it is, and is it any use to me at all? ;)

I think it's an immobiliser unit.
Had one fail a couple of years back and it was a barsteward of a problem. Took two weeks to locate the fault.
Keep it, you never know. :y

It is the engine management ECU that fits in the black plastic box behind the battery :y

I dont think it will work on yours, I had a MTek chip and wanted to swap it from my 98 3.0 to my 99 3.0 but was told it would not work :'(

TB will confirm but I think it's paired with the immobiliser and key transponders so unless you transplant all 3 from a working car it will need a Tech2 to pair everything up.

It was the size that got me. The photo made it appear much smaller than an ECU. Yep, it is an ECU not an immobiliser. What a muppet I am (again!!!)

They're very compact these days considering what's inside :y

If I'd bothered to check before rushing in, I would also have spotted it has more pins than an immobiliser. Double muppet. :-[ :-[

Well if its no good on its own, another bit to chuck in the shed just in case ;D
-
Think it has to be paired with ABS ECU as well.

Up, its engine ECU. Without its pair immobiliser (or a Tech2 to program), its about as much use as a used jonny smeared in dogshit.
