Title: NOT AN OMEGA - but worth a look
Post by: Albatross on 25 October 2009, 10:35:15
I just had my new 9 year old Berlina Black S2000 professionally valeted / polished / detailed or whatever the correct term is.

The man responsible is a friend's husband, Joe Chewter, and we took about 200 photos of the whole process from start to finish which, including the deep clean took about 20 hours.

Auto Valeting Services is the name of his company and he works for Morgan, BMW and TVR amongst other high end private collectors.

I must admit I thought the car was pretty clean when I bought it about a week ago, but, whilst I haven't posted them here, some of the before/during comparisons of the swirled and marled paintwork are absolutley phenomenal. There are still a few swirl marks which, given the car's age, is not surprising, but Joe reckons we can deal with them next time round in 6 months when it is due its next waxing session. He also says he wants to "flat off the orange peel" in some places. I'm sure many of you know what this means, but he lost me at this point. :(

Here's some of the (still in garage) shots we took last night. (It looks amazing today in the sunlight)

There is no lacquer on this car!

That garage is far too neat & tidy to be called a garage. It needs some oil stains on the floor, and a few paint brushes cleaned out on the brickwork and the cans/tins etc on the window cill are FAR too neat in my humble opinion ;) ;D :y

You could always clingfilm it and peel a layer off when it gets dusty  :y

To answer some of the points here:

It has rained and it has been dusty.

This car is still immaculate. I haven't just had this cleaned, this has been deep polished with compound to the point that water doen't even get a chance to bead and a drive at 30mph is enough to blow the dust off. The surface is that smooth. It feels almost plasticky to the touch. I've never had or felt a car's paintwork that is so smooth, not even from new.

So be cynical if you wish I would be too if I hadn' seen the results for myself so I empathise, but if you suffer from a black car that get's drty, or dusty quickly then my advice is ...

"Go and see Joe Chewter!"  ;)
