Title: Its wet here
Post by: TheBoy on 20 July 2007, 08:57:00
Boy, is it chucking it down here.

We've also just had a few real decent claps of thunder close by - hence the short little outage about 20m ago, network switch locked up.  UPS is bleeping away merrily, as power keeps going off for a few seconds (hope UPS has sufficient charge time between brownouts, else no more OOF for a while!)

Funny, I thought it was us. Our work server went down at the same time and we have clear blue sky. Carlyon Bay looked beautiful on the way to work this morning.

Just had one of those claps of thunder that sets off all the car alarms (except my 2 Omegas  :-/) and house alarms.  The noise is doing my head in  >:(

The Bells! The Bells!

They had traffic jams in the lanes today, "Arghh a puddle, I must emergency brake"

One village was jammed with school drivers getting confused :(

.. and the Omega's in getting its' bonnet replaced :-(

That makes my only working car... a Westfield! (only just working, exhaust is hanging off due to another dodgy weld)

Chickened out this morning and dropped Emma off at work before driving in in her MX.

Felt a bit like this : http://www.gibbstech.co.uk/aquada.php

Yeah. They lifted the ban about three months ago.  :) :). Trouble is, it still wont stop them though trying to put a ban on using water they will try and make some excuse up  :(

Ermm. No. Did have the window down at one point but wound it up again as I was getting soaked!

Not sure our hose pipe ban ever got lifted. SE Water are bad enough at sending bills out for the correct amount to the correct people let alone stuffing water in pipes.

Took me 3 hours to do my normal 1/2 hour trip home this afternoon.. exhausting. :(

Apparently had a land slide on the M4 :o

Both garage and greenhouse (which is a lean to on the house) floors were under water.  Soakaways just couldn't cope.

Ive just come in...been out all day.

It was raining when i started work at 7.45am and continued to rain all day.....most of Swindon is flooded...lots of roads closed....most of the roads are grid locked.....even now.

On my way home i went through a lake very slowly but i could still hear the water lapping on the sills  :o

Throughout the day the omega has been through some very deep water......but she carried on going  :)

At one junction out in the sticks i had to stop right in the middle of a lake......to let other cars (their right of way) go......i could hear a bubbling noise......i reckon the zorst tailpipe was partly under water  :o Now that is deep water!!

Only prob i had was with oncoming 4x4 muppets driving through lakes fast......creating big waves  >:(
One idiot i saw was creating a bow wave that was upto his headlights...i was praying he had a low air intake....and would come to a grinding halt!

Yeah, the to$$ers amongst the 4x4 owners really stand out on days like this. The other 364 days of the year they have to put up with driving an agricultural, cumbersome P.O.S, though, so I don't get jealous.    ;D

I would have really liked my parents' 4x4 today! (Seriously, I'm tempted to import it or one like it.  Would be bloody useful around here!  Yeah, LHD, but a LOT cheaper than most things around here - bar the Omega of course!)

Strangely, biggest bow wake I saw today was off an S-reg Polo going upstream.  My bow wake almost took down a streetname sign :o  I was really worried about getting stuck!  :-/

Saw a stricken V6 Omega in Frimley Green today. Not an OOF'er, I hope. Looked nasty.  :(

If I'd had some OOF flyers in my glovebox I would have handed one out, as the recovery truck guy was just looking bemused at the engine.

That particular one I was toying with going through, but was waiting as this old boy was walking through with wellies, so I thought I'd wait for him (couldn't see kerb edges, so want to let him walk through out of the way so I could go down the middle), only to see him stumble and go A over T.  Seemed there was a decent amount of energy in that river. So I decided against it.

The old boy was OK BTW...

Was in tractor, was worried about the low air intake, the extra drag on the troublesome gearbox, and lack of traction of the tyres!

When the chap went over, couldn't help it, I chuckled for about 1s, then understood the gravity of the situation, but before I could get out and start running, he was back up again, and my laughing returned.  Really nice chap as well, he saw the funny side of it :y
