Having a black Elite i feel i'm somewhat limited finding ways of modding her without running the risk of cheapening her. Made a few alterations so far..What do you guys reckon. Any advice would also be appreciated.
Incidently, between selling my old 2.5 1998 CD, a set of old alloy wheels and a remote control car this "new" one cost me a whole £20.00. That said, she's cost several pennies since, what with oil changes, cambelt change etc etc..You know how it goes !!

not a fan of the eyebrows on the headlights, 19" snowflakes are quite nice i think, thats a nice mod
-
very very nice car,if she was mine id take all the holden stuff off, clear repeater lenses and lower her about 30 mil !
-
Understood..The brows were actually slightly too long so has given her a slightly "japanese" look.
WISH I could change the wheels trust me !
-
She appears to be at the same ride height as the MV6 already...don't know why BUT we've measured her against a friends MV6 and they are identical.
Heck ! Decals wise, I've just put the Holden stuff on !
he he he he...a mistake ???
Will pop in to Vauxhall to see about the repeaters...good idea. Thank you.
-
I like the eyebrows & the grill :y 8-)
I don't like the grafix & why does it have V8 on the rear? :-? :-/
-
Well spotted regarding the V8 badge..Idnoring the fact that the cheap back box makes her sound like a V8, it was just to be a bit different I guess.
Had to laugh last week..popped in to Vauxhalls and a mechanic came out, walked up to me and said "wow..thats a rear beast mate...not every day you see a V8 Omega"....I confessed !
-
very smart looking motor that mate :y :y :y
-
Sorry ... but the eyebrows, stickers, and the V8 thing have ruined a very nice looking car .. :(
In response to your question ...
Naff
:(
-
having the same dylema, had lots of plans before i got my y reg cd v6 but now that i have it i dont want to change it!!! a elite boot spoiler is looking like is going to be my only mod!! what exhaust u got?
-
As said already a big no no to the stickers and V8 :-/ ..... otherwise i like the grill and i dont even mind the eyebrows :y
-
But least she's unique !!!!
The decals are genuine Holden one's that they sell down under...granted to put on a Holden NOT a Vauxhall...like the idea of a Lion better than a Griffin..
Seen lions...never come across a Griffin !
They are all removable so I'll see how it goes ! The moment they start falling off I might remove them entirely.. We'll see.
Least you've put me off putting any more on !! ha ha ha.
-
Where did you get your grill ??
-
Grill ! Good question. I originally was going to get the metal grill but having seen one fitted on a vectra..didn't like it.
I got mine from ebay Germany..under "Omega Grill" and several of different types were available.
The one i got also comes "pre-chromed" but i didn't think that would look right on a black car..
I think they are about £45.00 plus postage.

Quote from Entwood.
"Sorry ... but the eyebrows, stickers, and the V8 thing have ruined a very nice looking car .. "
BUT with respect you have a Gold car by the looks of things. In itself it looks the part but with Black it can really only go one way...ermmm Black ! Thats it.
It is very difficult, in my opinion, to have a Black car stand out, to look anything apart from ermm Black.
On a Gold car, things stand out as being a different colour... Black tyres, black wipers, black grill and perhaps trims. On a Gold car you have contrast...on a Black car your haven't and unless you want to introduce wild colours it is very difficult to know what on earth to do.
A black car is mean and moody...thats what black is..hence I was trying to add a few little touches to change things slightly...perhaps NOT for the better but as I said, its very difficult with Black !!!!!
-
Get rid of eyebrows and stickers and the silly V8 thing (you were worried about devalueing it...making people think it's a V8 when it isn't is effectively doing that!), but keep the grill, and it'd be noice.
Completely black Omegas are quite rare. I don't see where the fascination with "making it stand out" comes from. A nice stainless steel exhaust and the lack of a grill will "turn heads" if attention is what you're after.
I'd be happy with a stealthy luxobarge that has a very decent punch should it be required. No need for "Holden" stuff.
-
For what its worth from someone who has a repertoire of some of the worst cars in the UK....
A standard black/black Omega is designed to be understated and cool without trying too hard-personally I would say the stickers, graphics, V8, Holden stuff undermines this.
If it was mine, I would return it to standard except for your grill, then Opelise it (not Holdenise) with Opel badges on alloys and bootlid. Only other mod would be white side repeater lenses and possibly a private plate to hide the age.
Its a personal thing and its a lovely car-hope you like the input.
I think the above changes would complement the mean, understated appeal of the standard model, not detract from it :y
Thanks for posting pics-interesting :y

I like Holden....can't afford one but like them.
Its only us Migarites that would know theres something fishy....heck..even fooled a Vauxhall mechanic the other day...NOT that that's hard ?? he he he he.
Suspect that 99.9% of people have no clue as to what HSV stands for so tis fun to keep them guessing.
PLUS when I DO get my Holden, I'll have some additional decals.
I take your point....tis down to personal choice I guess, fortunately decals and eyebrows don't change the fact that she DOES go like sh1t of a shovel
if i don't mind visiting the pumps fairly often. ;) ;) ;)
I DID think about the Opelise option but several people do that already...Hey ! I guess i could have Cadilaced it.....but then i'd have to have plonked a load of dents in her....I know...I've driven in the US.
-
Lose the eyebrows, lose the stupid V8 badges, it isn't. Lose the holden badges it isn't, clear side repeaters and it'll look quality :y

I like sleepers (understated cars which pack a surprise) rather then letting everybody know what is under the bonnet-it is more fun ;D
For example, I would stick a 1.9TDI badge on the back of a hot VW/Audi or a 1.8LS badge on a VXR and tone it down as far as poss...
A 3.6 V6 4wd Skoda Superb with a few management tweaks and a 1.4TSI badge could be a giggle ;D
I think the phrase was "speak softly and carry a big stick"
-
Oh I forgot to add chrome number plate holders and it'll look perfect, it doesn't need stupid V8 badges or Holden one's :y

THIS is one of the great reasons I love OOF ....to get advice and seek opinions.
All of which I really appreciate. I've given it a lot of thought and decided that tomorrow, at some point, the stickers are gonna get the hair dryer treatment.
Gonna keep the grill, brows and HSV/Lion Logo on the back but think the rest will be going "bye bye".
Thanks for your views chaps!

Sounds wise :y

Naff - lose the silly V8 badge and holden decals and eyebrows - spoils what would be a nice motor.
[edit]Have a look at this one mate - http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1264887909 or this one for tasteful mods http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1261435703[/edit]

A very nice looking car D however the wheel size is a bit overpowering and the additional badges and graphics don't do it any favours. :y
-
he he he...Tell that to vauxhall...they are standards ??
-

They look very big D, what size are they?
-
17" one of the standard sets for the elite.

17" one of the standard sets for the elite.
Are the tyres lower profile then, Ive been out to look at my car - which has the standard 17 wheels - and the overall effect looks to be much smaller than yours :-/ :-/
[edit]Hold up, part of my confusion results from the 5 spoke design, I have the 7 spoke - that must be throwing me off :-/ :-/ [/edit]
-
235 x 45 x 17.....Thought that was normal for the Elite.
-

I agree with you and Elite wheels nice on her
Kack

235 x 45 x 17.....Thought that was normal for the Elite.
May have solved this, the tyres fitted on my car are 225 55 ZR16 so my wheels are smaller, this has probably contributed to my view that your wheels looked quite big (along with the 5 spoke design)
I may still be confused however. ;D ;D ;D
-
That would do it regarding smaller wheels....
Smoked repeaters are on order..£7.00 for the two with TC.
The V8 on the back has gone now, as has the HSV decals on the front panels and the "Holden Racing Team" writing under the lion/racing helmet.
That will remain for the time being as it looks really good in the flesh according to all the comments made at work today, granted a lot better now that the writing has gone.....
Thanks for all your comments and advice....feel happier now.

I've done a combination of the mods you have & some that others have mentioned to the Beastie, (Black 3.0MV6 manual mini facelift). Facelift door trims (not in calender pic) mesh grille cut back, sprayed & fitted to an Elite surround & an Irmy badge to top it off. Bose from an Elite & recaro leather seats/doorcards with carbon fibre effect /leather moulded steering wheel retaining stereo controls, full s/s de catted exhaust system from rebel power pipes Omega mudflaps, clear side repeaters, thin wheel spacers & a cheeky private plate with chrome surrounds. When i bought her from Hotel21 he'd already fitted cruise control & a very subtle (not OTT) irmy red spring lowering kit to the back end which helps keep her in place when on the twisties & kind of makes her look mean even when stood. (well i think so!) Personally i'd lose the stickers & the V8 badge as they ARE naff. The rest of the car i like & is a credit to you. I can't decide on eyebrows on your car or mine, the jury's out on that one but i don't think i've boy racered mine up & feel the mods are in reasonable taste...you can go too far.
I understand some folk don't like any mods & prefer them out of the box which is fine in my book. I've seen many owners standard Migs @ meets which show how much they're cared for & loved which is all that really matters. :y
-
Hi..have you posted pictures of your car please. Would very much like to see her.
-
Thanks for all your comments and advice....feel happier now.
Don't get me wrong, this may sound strange, but it sounds awfully much like you're trying to style your car to everyone else's taste?
Why is it important if people at work or on here like it?
If you really were happy with how it looked before then you'd have looked at our responses and thought "fair enough, but it's what I like".
This is why I never went down that route (tempted as I was when I started driving). Too many opinions cause much confusion :D.
-
Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.
Your car, = your rules.
If others don't like it, tough sh1t. ;)
-
Understood....BUT I valued the words and opinions of those on the forum.
Such advice has got me out of the poo on many occasions and to be honest I'm not always right and correct in what I do....so like to seek the opinions of others....and on occasions even the wife ! (I can only say that because she never reads these forums...I ain't that brave !)
-
Got any new pics? I would be interested in seeing the progress :y

what with v8 badges on a v6 and i saw somebody put sri badges on his mv6..what is the world coming to ?are you lot losing the plot?
-
Im new to all this but personaly would take off the v8 badges and the silly stickers on the door, like the eyebrows (mine has them, looks mean) the car will then look ok IMHO
-
I agree about the v8 badges id lose them and either leave it blank or put the o/e ones back on I`d personally opelise it ive done that to my ex plod 3.2 and get people asking about my car were did you get it etc .I also gave my prvious miggy the opel treatment it was a 2.5 td cdx badge as a opel at the time of owning it i used it as a taxi and many of the fares were amazed when told them it was a vauxhall some even argued that it looked too nice to to be a taxi :y . But at the end of the day its down to personnal taste if i had my way my white miggy would have battenburg stripes and the police writin still on it LOL ;D
