Right, this is of course the cursed 2000 Elite LPG facelift with the knackered engine.
For those that haven't followed this, I bought this in March with a suspected head gasket failure. Rebuilt the top end - twice, but had the noisest tappets on earth. Deduced oil pump failure, so one engine change needed. Sourced a supossed good v6, changed it and then had to wait until the soidding rain stopped for about 5 weeks. This weekend discovered this has the same problem! Chance of that?
So, much as though I hate this car now, I am changing the engine again. And I am doing it on my own. Replacement engine checked and heard running. It has oil pressure, cylinder compression, 6 pistons and a timing cover, which is al an impriovement on the current one.
I have also decided to go the whole hog, so the AR25 is coming off and an AR35 is going on. I will do that at the same time. I have one big headache, which is the LPG wiring again. Just soldered it all in and now I can take it al out again. Apart from that, taking this engine out is relatively easy. Once the gearbox is split away, it is really just a case of disconnecting the wiring loom, pop both radiators off. Undo the engine mountings and out it comes. That easy.
Getting the new one in is almost the same, but you have to very careful not to crush or trap things. Otherwise, in it goes and lock down. On with the box, in with the radiators, plumb everything back in and connect everything back up. Then bingo, it should be right this time.
Whilst the engine is out I MAY replace gaskets, but having heard this today it doesn't need exhaust manifold ones, so I am not tempting fate by snapping any studs off. It will get the cambelt kit and water pump, and rocker gaskets if they are leaking. It definitely needs the other HBV as this is what has gone on it, taking the DIS pack out with it.
So, by the weekend this car should be mobile again. Oh well, in for a penny.......

How the hell do you find the Time :o :o
not to mention the patience, :y :y :y

I own my own company and work when I like/can. I do have some mobility issues that mean I cannot always work full time, so I sit on here a fair bit sometimes. Time for the engine/gearbox change? 4 hours.
As for patience, well most people on here will vouch for me as a tolerent, easy going, mild mannered, extremely handsome, modest and and all round 'think before you speak' sort of guy. Did I mention modest? I am also known for never losing my patience and certainly never thrown toys out the pram. ::)

UPDATE 1
Right, this morning I had an hour spare, so I got the engine ready to take out.
bagpies already off
timing belt cover already off
removed battery
removed header tank
removed scuttle
disconnected fuel pipes
disconnected throttle cables
disconnected servo pipe
disconnected rear multiram
removed breather pipes
removed plenum
syphoned off PAS reervoir
disconnected radiator hoses
disconnected gearbox oil cooler pipes from radiator
unplugged loom to raditaor/aircon wiring
removed radiator
disconnected aircon condenser union
removed fans
remnoved condenser
disconnected ECU
cut wiring looms for LPG ( again)
unplugged engine loom plugs
removed upper cable tray
removed earth bonding
diconnected PAS pump union & flexipipe
Spoke to old bloke across the road after he said 'Ooooh, having trouble' - he won't be speaking to me again! (long story, but I have had enough of his negative input thanks!)
Drilled out battery tray bolt which had sheared
disconnected HBV
removed plumbing for LPG
So, that is it so far. I now just have to drop the CATs off, break the propshaft off again, remove the old gearbox, remove the torque convertor, undo the engine mountings and out it comes. About an hour left of the strip down.
Then, new box, new engine and put everything back with a new water pump and cambelt kit. Hopefully it will be right this time. I am only doing this because I want the car right. It is worth a lot if I do it properly, so that is exactly what I am doing.
There is a very vague possibility I may have another facelift Omega coming in, but I really don't fancy the job. Nothing too major, just a project that needs a bit of sorting.
Anyway, off to work soon so that is it for today. :y

Have to say Fin That is Mega Fast for an hour to do all that work.

I know how you feel, when I work on cars at my mums, a guy always walks past, asking
"what's up with this one"
"how much did this cost you"
"When will you be finished"
"Do you sell cars for profit"
P**S OFF!!!!!!
