Title: Omega DIY custom Exhaust
Post by: F1 9LFG on 28 May 2011, 11:05:25
Hi all, thought I'd take some snaps and share what I've done with the exhaust system to improve sound and hopefully free up some horses.

Firstly I removed the system, from the CAT back, the cut out the centre boxes leaving 4 pieces of tube.

I cut open one of the middle boxes for the sake of it!(http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/4262/oldboxcutopen.jpg)

I then had a length of stainless tube welded in place of the boxes ( The company who welded the tubes also offered cheap powder coating, so that was done too)(http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/6788/powdercoated.jpg)

I was lucky enough to find this on an auction website for a silly £30 + postage, probably the best part of £200 new from powerflow, needed adjusting slightly but was fine in the end.(http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/6941/powerflow.jpg)

All fitted and looking good! I didn't want anything too big, or loud, and the result is very suiting for the car, smart, great sound without being too loud and tips that don't look like they belong on a spaceship!

I don't own a welder, just a grinder, so I removed and cleaned everything and asked a local engineering company to weld it up for me. £10 later, plus powder coat..... Easy if you have the time, money is not really an issue (thankfully!)

The removal of the centre section is quite easy, even if you chucked it at an E ngineer and asked for a section on tube to be welded in place of the boxes it shouldn't cost more than £40 odd.

Wonder what the sound difference would be if the mod was carried out but you retained the OE backbox...(i dare ya!)
