Hi all
Just thought I'd share these with you guys on here as I have recently become the proud owner of an Omega Elite- 1 of the cars I always wanted to own. Needs a bit of work as it's been stood for 5 years so a service and cambelt are a priority!! Won't happen tomorrow due to another project but all comments welcome!

Last taxed 2005!

May need to hoover out the engine bay

Only bit of rust I've found so far- top of the rear door

Stood all that time, slapped a battery on it and it fired straight up! Needs exhaust as well despite the great sound. Top it off everything works (except rear blind!)
Comments welcome

Lovely colour and once polished up should be a beauty :y :y.... bet that scuttle drain is blocked though ;)
-
holy shite good time to invest in a pressure washer, bet it comes up a treat though, would like to see the before and after photos.
-
Go for it! it's nice to see the possiblity of an Omega coming back on to the road rather than being stripped for spares and then crushed. ;) :y :y
-
First thought was scuttle drain, have had prod about seems clear- plus dry as a bone inside!
Hoping to get it back on the road, will have to see what it fails the MOT on- I know it needs a screen and exhaust hopefully not much else well apart from a good clean!
-
Well done Active - will look forward to reading about your progress. 8-) :y
-
Nice mig mate, some work, and it will be the king of the road again :y
-
nice project good look with that good colour, :y
-
good on ya mate. nice to see an omega ''brought back to life'' :)
interior looks freaking immaculate!!!!!!
i can tell it has stood and not moved for years though..... the registration plate has warped!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Bah, I've taxed worse (only joking).
Although I suspect that your shopping list of parts ends up being quite long :o
-
Engine looks solid, a nice wash and detail then complete swap of fluids, enigne, gearbox, coolant flush, maybe diff fluid swap too...
And then get some fresh gas in it, should be back to being a perfect ride...
Cant wait to see more pictures.
-
it looks pretty good considering... use some high octane fuel the first time you will drive it, and of course all the changes necesarry.
-
Cant believe it fired up first time. Why was it left for so long? It was still a fairly young car with plenty of value left in it in 2005?
-
Good Luck with this mate, it's a very worthwhile job you're taking on! :y
-
Oh yes... cambelt, service brakes windscreen and that's just what I've seen so far! Price made it worthwhile tho.
It is in really good condition, got laid up one summer when the owner used his bike and it just didn't get put back on the road- the screen was cracked and needed a service. There is the possibility of rat damage but so far all clear.
Yeah was shocked about it firing up, only tried it for a laugh, but once the oil light went out started with a bit of throttle and idled a treat. Which reminds me the ac didn't work either :'( . Once I have sone space to work on it there will be pictures galore- well chuffed as it's my fave colour as well.
Progress will follow as will more pics
Thanks for the positive comments :y
-
I Love it, a really great save! :y
-
I maybe breaking my same colour mini facelift elite.
If you want a new rear blind and yours is the harder to source light tan colour give me a PM.
-
ActivaMad, I wish you all the most sincerest best with it mate, really I do, but I think if you paid anything for it, you've probably paid too much. It's rotting from the inside out, you're going to need to replace every rubber component, you'll definitely have to drain all the fluids and replace all the filters, the cam belt is a must change, and the petrol tank is probably suspect too.
The fact that it started is not really a surprise - that V6 is the most fabulous aspect of these cars.
I want to be proved wrong, want you to be able to laugh at me, so please do post more pics when its back on the road, together with your total expenditure to get it there.... 8-)

Why will it it be rotting from the inside out? Appreciate service work required but think you are overestimating the work that needs doing but to renew every rubber component might be a bit overkill. To be fair most expensive bits will be cambelt filters etc peanuts and i will be doing all the work on it. That said will be going through MOT before i spend anything on it. Hope you're wrong too i know it won't be cheap but will certainly keep you all posted! Don't expect it next week tho too many other projects going on!
-
Rot on O/S/R wing underneath the tail light cluster looks like it may have emanated from perished boot lid rubbers.....
-
Does look like rust in the photo but it's just dirt from sitting under a tree, not sure the paint will ever recover but it'll be fun trying. 8-)
-
My "rotting from inside out" comment duly recanted then!
Will be really interesting to see occasional progress reports with photos posted on here...
And - I agree that it's good to see someone attempting to save it rather than break it up, so I hope you get her running and looking beautiful in due course... :)
-
cant wait to see the pics once its all done up.
how long do you reckon the work will take? i take it its quite a big job getting it to pass an mot??
good luck though mate

Congrats of find. My thoughts on seeing the amount of shrubbery under bonnet, it may be good to enter it into chelsea flower show ;D.
Seriously. I'm sure you would have mentioned if any smoke from exhaust. However, my only contribution is it may be worth your while to do compression test, dry and wet. This is in my humble opinion as I am certainly nowhere near as experienced as other members.
Good luck in your endeavours :y :y
-
Thanks all for the comments, updates will follow..... as soon as there are any :y. First port of call will be an mot to see exactly what needs doing then I'll make a decision as to whether its worth doing- not in it to make money but not planning to spend loads and loads on it. TBH if it needs too much then it'll be broken :-[. Really hoping it'll be fine tho, reckon I can get some progress in the next few weeks- will update with photos as necessary!!

;D ;D
I think you should keep the leaves, gives it the "distinguished look".
Best of luck mate. Hope it goes well for you.
-
That will come up great ....Always a good thing when it starts on the 1st turn of the key :y :y
-
Small update for those who thought this one had dropped off the face of the earth!!
Last week got it out of its parking place and blasted it up and down local private road and it goes, stops, changes gear and doesn't overheat so thats a result..... however have found some extra stuff that needs sorting- all 4 tyres have massive flat spots where its been standing for so long :-[, the exhaust is a bit blowy (shame because it sounds quite good that way ;D and the brakes are a bit spongey.
The list is getting more extensive (and expensive!) but things like tyres exhaust and servicing I count as service items and out of the restoration costs (or at least thats how I explain it to the wife!!)
MOT will hopefully happen early next month so I'll get the full list of whats needed then and that will be make or break.

Be more worth your while to buy a set of wheels with some tyres on.
Will save you some money.
Especially if you just getting it on the road.
some pics of it cleaned up will be interesting.
-
Good look with that :y
-
Same colour as my two mate and it will come up a treat if you wash it and give it a good claying (You mite have to clay it a few times to get that tree sap off or you use some tardis) followed by a good polish then wax. :y :y Good luck with it mate. :y
-
very old !
-
Due to personal circumstances not been able to do much at the.moment, but.looking to go for an mot week after next.
Will post results when I when I get the expected fail note!
-
If you still need to do the exhaust then just get a complete Eternal Exhaust - all three parts will only be about £130 delivered!
Mine has lasted me 2 years / 30k now and it is sweet.
Agree with comments on getting a set of wheels / tyres second hand (check ebay out, you may find some local ones so saving on delivery!)
A beaut though!
:y
-
I know there are numerous sets of MFL Elite alloys with tyres sitting in members sheds and they are usually sold for buttons, put a wanted post in the test section when your ready and im sure a mod will move it for you.
Love it when abandoned cars are resurrected :y
-
Cool. Wonder if there are any windscreens suffering the same fate?!?!
-
I'ma amazed how mint the interior looks, good was/wax and hoover all the leaves up will look fantastic. I'm sure if there's someone close to you with a halfords/vx trade card they'd be more than willing to help out. How did you find it? any progress?
-
It belonged to a friend who just parked it up in summer when he was using his bike and just never put it back on the road! Progress is still slow, desperate to get it MOT'd to see how bad it is but can't seem to find the time at the mo around family and work ::)
-
Good luck mate. Can't believe someone would leave a top notch car stood idle for so long - reckless :(. How many miles has it done? :y
-
How many miles has it done? :y
109k.
Moment of truth 11am today- MOT booked, insurance sorted now lets see what it fails on!!
-
For those who haven't read my other thread, MOT failed on windscreen, exhaust, headlamp aim and a bulb. All round result I think especially as I already knew about exhaust and screen Just need to get those sorted (oh and the misfire!!) and with a fresh MOT service, cambelt and a whole host of other maintenance including a/c if poss and I'll be smoking around in it.
I might even clean it!!
-
Good news buddy!! My offer of the windscreen still stands, though if you have fully comp insurance for it you may be just as well claiming against that and paying your excess. Let me know either way! :y
-
Bit of an update.
New pattern exhaust fitted, rubbish fit but it does the job :-?

mate you deserve some sort of OOF medal/award.
i remember seeing the pics early jan (i think) but i dont get much time now to come on here. to see all that hard work pay off is awsome.
so is it just cambelt to do now? has it set u much back in total?
bloody well done - honorary OOF member!!!!!!! :y :y :y :y
-
I think everyone has had a bit of a Susan Boyle moment with your Elite. Comes on, rather rough around the edges and then comes forth and makes the world shine (or in this case, fellow OOF'ers lol!!)
Totally love it, you have done a fantastic job and now its time to get the working bits done that will keep you smiling, like that cambelt lol!!

Thanks very much for all your comments!! So far including MOT owes me just over £300.
That said in the true style of creative accounting for the wife, consumables and wear and tear items are excluded, so actually I've spent nothing ;D 8-)
-
Well done you :y :y :y :y she looks great. Have a beer or two on us ( TB is paying ;) :D )
-
:yAll the best with the project :y, it will be worth following this through on this topic, its the same colour as mine so will be interested how it turns out.
;D And as already has been said nice to see an Omega being restored rather than scrapped.. :(
-
Goood effort. what a transformation from what it was. :y :y :y
Enjoy your labour and many happy motoring :y :y :y
-
Well done mate just shows what can be acheieved :y
-
Hi there
Just like to say.... great find and good luck and work hard on the project. I'm on the scout for a miggy right now too. 2.5 V6 manual is my target. Love that colour!
Best regards
Anthony :y
ps it's true the interior looks great!
-
Current plan is to get it on the road in September when the MOT and tax run out on the cav 4x4. If that passes then I'll sell that and start looking for my ideal Omega- essentially exactly what I've got but an estate!
Still got cambelt and stuff to do, but have some time in September before cav MOT runs out to do that.
Will keep updates and photos as it get cleaned up and serviced.
-
Started on the cambelt today and got a little more than I bargained for :o

There's the rat evidence then, at least the Omega had the last laugh ;D
-
:y
-
Cambelt done timing was out about a tooth on the left bank suspect last change happened without the tools!! Insurance starts on the 7th just the few remaining service bits and a clean and it'll be done. WOOHOO!
-
Unbelieveable!! That doesn't even look like the same car :o
You've done an amazing job on her, one proud mig owner :y
-
bit of work and she will be lovely :y
