Hello!
these are my two projects. I´m a Norwegian so don´t care about my english:P
Omega 1:
This is my drift project. Started in july 2010.
The engine is from Calibra Turbo(c20let) with a chip +++

I really like the look of this. First one I've seen set up for drifting. Would like to know more, why you selected it and work involved.
Really nice 8-) :y
-
Love the 4th picture with the front wheel off the ground. Suspension set up must be very firm :y

The reason why I picked this car was because I´ve had it in my backyard:) Money was short and I wished to "drift" at fast as possible...
I bought a engine in sweden(cheaper:)) Fitted the engine in a couple of days, some homemade paining and cut the front springs. Koni at the rear...
This have been a budget project. The car is stripped and got Sparco seat and 4pkt seatbelts...
My plans is to get a 1jz from supra, KW coilovers and rollgage in time.
I hope you understand my poor english :-[

Your English is VERY good.
My only Swedish is Krona. :-? :-? :-/ ;D ;D ;D
-
NICE!!!
I really wanna get my omega drifting more! It's kinda the reason I started getting omegas in the first place!
Wanna know all the details! I see u did an engine transplant.. what was wrong with the V6?
Also you wanna put in a 1jz!? nice! Now you're talking my language!!
My ultimate car is a supra... 2jz though, twin turbo (GTE)
Anyway, back to drifting... You must have a LSD I take it? I don't know where i can get one. I can drift easy in the wet but I have to drive it really hard to drift in the dry.
how long have you been drifting?
I will be sticking with my omega for tramp drifting at the moment while I don't have a job... until I can get my Nissan Silvia!! :y
(by the way andy, he's norwegian not sweedish! ;) )
-
The original engine was 20xev (2,0L 16v) not v6... And that engine have no power:)
Its an N/A LSD. Very rarely on this cars.
2jz-gte is a awsome engine(My Dad have one :) He Also got a s14a ;D)
But the 1jz is much cheaper in Norway, and still a very solid engine.
I started "drifting" last summer. In June.
This is actually my first RWD car :P
2 of my dad cars btw

nice drift project :y
daily car look very nice too 8-)
-
*drools* :o
You're dad is my hero. He has the 2 cars I want to get!!! :y
Supra and Silvia..... sigh...
Does he drift in the supra too? (In my dream world, I would have the supra set up for street and maybe track, with lots of customization and "pimping", and the silvia set up completely for drifting)
-
by the way, is that the Veilside body kit on the supra? nice...
-
well... he try :)
He´s just doing it for fun. He is not young anymore :P
-
Yes, It´s Veilside.
We crashed the car last year, but it is rebuild now :)
forgot to wash my car.. :P

I love the black roof on your daily car, it really suits a white Omega :y

Like the look of your car mate - looks smart.
Whats with this drifting - its only a power slide - surely if you are driving on a race track the skill is lapping the fastest. To do this you have to drive smoothly and keep on the racing line - drifting or powersliding only scrubs off speed - where's the skill in that? Its like the goalkeeper who always punches the ball rather than catching it - pure show.
Comment from a former track racer - who can powerslide a car for show if pressed ;)

Bless,
Drift is a race style in itself, which is scored not necessarily on who wins the laps, but who exudes the most style...eg, most sideways.
It's MASSIVE in japan, and it takes an inordinate amount of skill to keep drifting ALL THE TIME, flicking from drift to drift, whilst being in close proximity to other cars.
Its not racing in the traditional sense and cant be compared.

Bless you too mate but it sounds a bit poncy to me mate. ;)
-
Ha, yeah sorry bout that.
just came out.
I'm no drifter myself, but i've been involved in a lot of clubs and meets where drift is the main focus, and i can tell you its far from poncy.
In fact its so main stream that there was a multimillion Ł film made entirely about it....
Guess which one?
fast and the Furious - Tokyo Drift.
Just because you think its not valid doesn't mean there aren't thousands of people out there doing it. In fact i do believe there is a drift track day at Pembrey next weekend.
You know, for all the people that dont do it.
-
dont get me wrong,
Ive got waaaay more respect for someone who can drive fast and has guts like Colin McRae for instance.
But every style has its place.
Some people might ask why people bother doing rally at all, when you could just do it on a track.....its about more than the race.
In America there is a league called formula Drift, It backed by all the big companies and although highly commercial, like Nascar!!!! it has a huge following and some big name drivers competing.
And like i said, Japan was where it all originated from. They say that it started as a natural style from the mountainous regions and the winding roads. The aim being to feel the curve and control the car in a smooth and controlled manor with precise vehicle placement and awareness.
Just what i've gather over time

Seen the film - fantastic story line ( :-? [smiley=lolk.gif] ) - nice motors - a lot of NOS mod'd motors. Clever driving - I think not.
Still if thats your bag then go for it :y
-
LOL! Loving the above convo!
(FYI on the film, didn't see much NOS in Tokyo drift, only the first one. (NX was the nitrous sponsor in the second) Who needs NOS to drift?)
But you gotta admit it takes some skill! When the main bad character (DK) drifts up the spiral ramp, and his car barely fits in it! That was done by the real DK, who played a cameo part as on of the fishermen.
(Yes, I know, I'm a Fast and Furious geek...lol)
But yes, it's a completely different type of motorsport, based on style rather than speed. Kinda like the Tour de France vs BMX!!! Same vehicle, different objective. And the way some of those cars are mod'd... WOW... I've seen some Silvias with the engine moved back 6 inches to shift the weight balance! Amazing stuff. The pros pull out all the stops.
Anyway, like you said, each to their own. But I'm not gonna lie... I originally got into Omegas for drifting!
(Drifting in cheaper RWD cars is also known as tramp drifting!)
I only recently found out that most of them don't have a LSD! Which is why it's so hard to get sideways in them. Although, with enough revving, you can get some sideways action and get some tyre smoke! Wet is definately a lot easier!!!! :y

tell me about it, rained a touch here yesterday and i was all over the shop lol.
I loved the fact that the real Dk did the fishermen bit in tokyo drift, was a fitting moment!
I think in reality, a decent drift car has stiff suspension, and low profile tyres.....without this there is too much bounce and give in the setup and the tyres tend if anything, to have MORE grip therefore making it harder to drift. Or maybe instead of more grip, it is an inconsistency in the nature of the grip :-? :-/ ::) ha
anyways

As you may have noted in previous posts, I myself am not a drifter, and if anything i consider it quite an abusive style of driving. All that tyre smoke and squealing is so wasteful. So in that sense i agree with you.
As a driver who operates on a budget, i would not think about driving my only vehicle in this manner, because if i break something A) this is my only car, B)i'm poor, so would not be able to fix!! lol
I consider myself a driver and not a "License Holder", like my Girlfriend.
I like to think i can drive well...
And i would not judge driving ability, nor measure it, by the ability to drift....not even close.
Real driving to me, is someone like Mark Higgins

ronny, your omegas look great!
especially the road version (on latest pictures).
I'm really liking white omegas with black roof or strips more and more.
Keep up the good work :y :y :y
Do you have LSD on both? Or do you manage with open diff?

Not on the road car. But I use the N/A LSD on the "drift" car. That works out just fine :)
s13 coilovers will be fitted tomorrow I think. It will be fun to see how that works out :P

"Omega 2. Daily car
20xev with chip++
H&R suspension, K-Max Camberkit. Styling+++"
how much power(hp or kW) now are in that engine? and where did you get it?
-
very nice pair. of cars :y
question. is it very difficult to drift? i obviously get the principle of oversteer, turn into the drift and balance the throttle but never ever dared do it.
if i wanted to learn can you give a beginner sum tips? :y
-
for drift you must have LSD(blocked diff) and strong suspension(sport springs and "shock absorber"). for first lessons you can do it with your computer-playing simulator ( as simple-live for speed) there you can get some lessons about drift :D don`t afraid, just do it in a car park :D

I´m total newbie when it comes to drifting. This is my first RWD car ever. So I am not very good. And with the lame spec list on my car, I think other hardcore drifters would laugh their ass off:)
But my advise is to don´t be scared. If you are scared to fail or damage your car, you will automatic let go off the trottle. That just make you get grip again.
(Hope you understand my english. Because I almost don´t. :-[ )
And my drifter got some new eyes:)

I´m not sure. previous owner purchased and installed it.

I like this alot :y :y :y 8-)

No. not much. but I have also removed the catalytic converter(?) and install Simons exhaust ... More expensive than it's worth ...
-
where do you take the car to drift? :)
im not sure of anywhere round my way to do such things :'(
-
I started testing in big parkinglots on snow the winter I bought my first RWD car(2009). And after that we started to rent a practice place some miles from where I live. And after a couple of months I started on race tracks.

Then I been on the last practice this year and the car run perfectly:) I did hit the wall once, but the omega´s can take little bit of beating:P

That does look like a top laugh :)

always easier to drift when you have more power 300 bhp plus , but once you get the feel of the car its magic, dancing a mk i escort though stages is pure porn i know ive done it.
my last track car was about 400 bhp and four wheel drive so more a power drift than a proper drift.

where did you get your headlights from?

What have you done to beef up the back end? I keep breaking driveshafts :y

Really?? Wow! What size tyres do you run on the rear then? (and at which pressure?)

[/quote]
To be honest, I never check the pressure:P But I have planed to drive with more pressure then I have done. I got way to low power to drift like I want.
I use from 15-17". 15" and 16" most. With 17" I got to much grip...
(Again: Sorry for my bad english. Hope you understand my writing:P)

Nice projects!
I saw you videos on youtube before seeing this topic here, keep on having fun.
If you get somewhere near Italy or Germany for an event let's meet up, an Omega tandem with a sedan and an estate should look pretty fun!
-
Thanks!
That would have been awsome. I´m not sure my budget allow me to travel so far with the car on a while. I consider to go to Denmark next year on the DHB meet.
Tandem with Omega had been realy nice!

Hi,
Have You managed to install that hydraulic e-brake in your omega? Any tips maybe? :) I have similar one, but wondering how to put it, so I could have both original and hydraulic e-brakes working.
Did You make any changes to increase steering angle?

you can run the rear brake line into the car from underneeth on its way threw to rear so it opperates the disc part of caliper locking the rears leaving your standard cable handbrake in same position using drum section of disc, you can mount the e.brake on a bracket next to the gearshift on left side off the tunnel as its easyer to grab there rarther than in its original position because it will get in the way of gear changes hope that makes sense??
