Title: CAT C FOR SPARES
Post by: djdaveyp85 on 12 June 2009, 20:12:51
Hi guys,

Well as some of you know my mrs was his from the nearside and the insurance company has written Geoffrey off. All he needs to fix him and is 2 new doors and the pillar straightening but I have a feeling he is better going to somebody to break him up and sell his parts to save the lives of other omegas around the world. I have spend ounces of cash on geoffrey since buying him in august and I am sad to see him go. Everything under the bonnet is great including cam cover gaskets and hbv fitted by loo-knee and elite pete recently, timing belt done and oil cooler at 86000 and regular oil and filter changes since then. So I am willing to take reasonable offers for him.

He is of CDX spec 2.6 v6 manual gearboxd
The only thing i think he is lacking mechanically is a quiet whining from the diff and a noisey exhaust manifold gasket.

He will be available in about a weeks time for collection. And is written off CAT C.

Like I say any reasonable offer will be considered, and i'd like to thank all you guys on here for your help and support in the small time i've owned him. Unfortunatly I have decided not to replace him with a miggy as much as I love them and i'm going to get a mk2 MR2 instead.

Thanks all, and I hope he finds a happy home somewhere or saves somebody else from the scrapheap.

Looking at the pictures, it would seem all it needs is a SH door and the door trim.  It would seem a shame to break it for that.  Have I misread the pictures ?

That's gotta be worth getting back on the road, especially in THAT colour!! She (sorry HE) looks utterley wonderful.

Hope it goes back on the road, and very nice to see you have a real emotional attatchement to it. Hope it does go to a good home.

Ok, just though i'd list the problems i know about on the car now I have some time so you can decide whether its worth fixing or not.

The diff is whining, it has been ever since i bought the car but it drives fine but it may need replacing soon.

There are a few minor scuffs around the car aside from the accident damage.

The front passenger side headlight washer is missing.

Two of the bulbs in the dash have gone so only the centre of the speedo lights up at night.

There is a slight vibration at motorway speeds in both the steering wheel and the seat so the bushes on front and back may need replacing.

As a result of the accident the display is displaying "Low beam fld/vision" so one of the sensors for the self adjusters maybe damaged/dislodged.

My mrs got the clutch a little bit hot this week reversing up a hill and ever since after a long drive there seems to be a clutchy smell coming from the car, even though the clutch isn't slipping and its driving fine.

One of the exhaust manifold gaskets is leaking.

Now the good bits.

I have been changing the oil and filter once a month.

The cam cover gaskets have been done in the last couple of months by loo-knee.

The hbv was also changed at the same time.

The oil cooler was replaced in january.

The thermostat was replaced in january.

The timing belt, tensioners etc were changed in january at 86000.

So bearing all this in mind and the fact I pick up my new car today, I am once again open to sensible offers. Any offer is considered as I am now just looking to get rid.

I'm sorry to say it doesn't look like Geoffrey will be back on the road. I've had a proper look with my guys in the know and it needs to much to make it worth it. It's a real shame to be honest as I like the car, but I can't spend what it needs on it as it would pretty much be a lost cause. (Cost of repairs probably more than value of car.)

I only drove it home from Halifax, but I think my next car might now be an omega! It really surprised me, I expected it just be a bigger version of the vectra, but it's not. The interior is a nicer place to be. I am gutted that I will end up stripping this one. Arwell, will keep looking.
