Must be honest, didn't think the gap on multi-electrode plugs could be changed.
Excellent guide :)

If I'd got Autodata, I think that's what it would say....
Thanks.

Quality guide AA ! Love the tool labels ;D
You can almost hear the haynes guides sobbing! ;D

Excellent guide AA [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Wish my engine was that clean :-[ I bet you dont even have to wash your hands after working on your engine.
Im guilty of not using a torque wrench as well :-[
Tho I can add a bit of advice to your guide......do NOT attempt to change the plugs when the engine is still hot....apart from the plugs being a sod to get out......you also burn your fingers trying to get the plugs out of the plug socket :'(

I'll ask Jamie to amend it to include 'Do not attempt to change the spark plugs when the engine is hot'.
Thanks TD. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Great Guide AA, almost as good as mine ;) ;D
Seriously though, very clear. Well Done [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I think i has summat to do with the laws of physics....hot things expand and therefore plugs are in there tighter than a knats arse tight things are....plus hot things are generally well ummm hot ;D

Could be the fact i am running a very high res here, 1400 x 1050.
The photos of my brake bleed and oil change look quite small acutally! :o
But if its clear then its probably my silly high resolution, don't worry about it AA.
-
Well done, AA, we are now waiting for the cambelt change How2... ;D
1600x1200 here, no problem with arrows, and the pictures are great.

Just for the record, the GM Part Number for the spark plugs according to Trade Club:
2.0/2.2 (twin electrode) (GM09) P/N 9195109 / Retail £3.08 / Trade £2.43 / Trade Club £1.73 (+VAT)
And just to re-cap something I mentioned some time ago when I changed my plugs on the V6, while we all know that the GM/Vauxhalls plugs are Bosch re-badged, I was still quite surprised when I saw that the original factory-fitted plugs on my engine were actually Bosch-branded, not GM/Vauxhall...
-
One last point -
There have been mixed views whether spark plugs should be fitted dry or with copper grease on the threads (which is what we used to do in the 'old days' to make sure they don't seaze), but since the factory-fitted ones that I removed had copper grease on them, I used copper grease on the new ones as well. But as I said there have been mixed views about this so make up your own mind...
-
not doing them up too tight is the other way to stop seizing. I've seen vx monkeys really putting a lot of effort into over-tightening...
-
don't worry about it AA.
I'm not ;)

That's interesting, the one's I took out were badged GM, supposedly changed by the dealer at the last service.
As we are well aware, you should take your car to the dealer to have it serviced properly
Plug 1 must have been just past finger tight.
Plug 2 I thought I was going to have to put an extension bar on it, but it gave in the end.
Plug 3 was just a touch tighter than plug 1.
Plug 4 was just a bit looser than plug 2.
The gaps in each of the plugs I removed were all over the place, and, bear in mind they have only been in for about 4K.
I set all the gaps in the new plugs to the correct tolerance, and torqued them to the correct setting.
All I can say is, what a difference, the car ticks over better, and seems to respond better.
By the way MJ, those prices, each, or for 4?

Probably run out in the Factory MJ and popped out to their local 'Halfords' to get some more ;D

What were the gaps like on the new ones you put in AA?
They usually say 1.0mm on the boxes, I dont check them :-[ I assume they are 1.0mm and just bung em in.

2 of them were OK, the other 2 were a very loose 1.0mm.

So did you change the spark plugs 4k after the Vx dealr did? :o
Well I suppose that at around a tenner for materials and for the fun of having it done, it was worth it...
-
Also, I though that all like the 4-electrode ones, all multi-electrode plugs were non-adjustable, but if you say Autodata has it as 1.0mm, I will not argue with them ;D

Yes, I changed the plugs 4K after the dealer did, and am I pleased that I have.
If that is the state of the plugs after 4K, then I shall be changing them again in another 4K.
I wish now that I had posted a picture of the state of the plugs after 4K for you all to look at.
