Title: Tunnie's Eurotrip Diary
Post by: TheBoy on 22 July 2007, 15:57:17
Tunnie was on the ferry at 10:30 this morning, just heard from him, now in Belgium after a 90mph stint, 30.7mpg.

Pictures will follow when he can email (as my SIM can't do MMS)...

Although in defence of my Omega it's behaved now for the last 3(?) years but it did break down 3 or 4 times in the first few weeks of ownership DIS & Crank sensor! >:( It left SWMBO stranded in the buisiest part of the town's by-pass on a Saturday afternoon - how pleased was she?! ::)
The Senator though never broke down or left me stranded in 6 years of owning it - hot starting problems due to crappy wiring to starter had been sorted.

He has had it for quite a while, can't remember when he got it, but I know that he had it in February.

Tunnie only has the Silver Senny, never had any other. Got it around Jan/Feb.  Should be OK tbh, the car is basically sound, and both of us have spent considerable time sweating blood and tears under it.

90mph blast? Pah...

Me and Mark did 120mph + blasts for hundreds of miles at a time in our old Senny and it never once gave us a problem (aside of the rally stage up a mountain!)

It will be fine, I would have complete faith in one of them across Europe. :)

Due to naff weather in Belgium, Tunnie has moved on to Frankfurt.  Sounds like he has been giving the Senny a good blast down the autobahns  :o

Got a message from Tunnie yesterday, he has made it to Switzerland, and its 32C there. Senny coping well with heat and high speeds on the autobahns to get there.

He's off into the Alps today...

Glad to hear he's doing OK and the Senny is behaving holding together.

He doesn't seem to be very well connected. Has his wiring suffered some kind of failure?  ::)

First pic.....the Senator in Switzerland.....

Although judging by the lack of people and the way the doors open....perhaps his wiring caught fire....

Not necessarily. Apparently, I'm a bad influence on him according to his mum....   ....and the other day he was giving my MV6 some large at a shade under 140mph on our private track  :-?

And did he believe you, as he wouldn't believe me.  In Europe, consumer wifi is preconfigured to be fairly secure, just as is beginning to happen here.

Best bet is to pick on major hotel chains......but even then you have to park blooming close!
The other day i was connected to a large hotels network....I was in McD's carpark A4 Heathrow...right next door, parked up against the fence of the Hotel....and even then i kept loosing connection  :(
Could find about 1/2 doz of secured networks but only the one unsecured.

Last time i tried actually in Heathrow terminal.....i could get onto an unsecured network.....but it appeared they didnt have a DHCP server on the network, or if they did it wasnt issueing dhcp leases (maybe it had reached its max leases  :-/ )....coz i wasnt getting ip addresses so was as much use as a chocolate teapot!

UK has loads of open ones, I think Tunnie was naively thinking the same for Europe.  Shutting down DHCP on open wifi is one extra protection layer ;)

But they advertise wifi points.....in fact i could see a sign that indicated a wifi point....bit pointless if they've shutdown the dhcp  ::)

Greetings from Switzerland!

Just about to leave the site here and head for Lyon, not going to get a chance to do any of the big passes, have to head to France, the one into Italy is too far off course in the time we have  :'(

Senator running well, German roads did a lot of 110 crusing, so far learnt that germans like their diesels, and be manuals, here in Switzerland all the cars seam to be petrol, not diesel. Lots of tunnels, Senny went up some alpine passes no problems, even stop start traffic in a hot german motorwaz did not cause any problems.

Had one hot start issue, but fixed that, just unplugged the big loom connector in the bonnet, and put it back in again.

Think i will be comming back to Switzerland, the women here are just amazing!  :o If you know what i mean!  ;)

Will send more mms messages from France....

oh btw that aint a bird in the car, thats my mates!  ;D ;D
