Ok my mate has said its gonna cost about £350 :'(
It needs a new condensor....didnt get a vx one.....£210 for one even at trade price :o
So mate has sourced one for £120...£90 cheaper.....all the rest of the estimate is labour and regassing/etc....he reckons it will take him about 3 hours.....so isnt too bad i reckon

Piece of cake if you count from front door back to front door door. 45 mins to work ... 12hours at work (couple of hours work while there! ;)) ... and then 45 mins back again.

Screw that, I'd just put the window down. Summers generally aren't hot enough to be worth using A/C anyway, although it is very useful when it's pouring outside making the air humid, otherwise it's a losing battle trying to keep the windows from steaming up.

Not sure I agree. It can get pretty unpleasant in a tin top even in this country. If you've got a long journey to do it's not exactly conducive to keeping your mind on the road - or anything for that matter. Even when it's not roasting hot, and even when heating the car the air con results in fresher, less humid air which helps, I find.
My preference in such conditions is to be driving something that hasn't got a roof at all but that's not always possible. Air conditioning does at least help.

I agree :y
Ok town driving you can put the window down.....motorway driving is the problem.....window up and you roast on a hot day.
On a hot day even driving about town with the window down all day i find i get tired a lot quicker....aircon on i stay more refreshed for longer :y
