Who"s got one.
Not a Laptop but base unit.
Have you built one, if so whats the spec.
Mine is driving me nuts. :-/
Noisy cpu fan, supposed to be good its an Artic cooling Freezer pro 7 according to form.
Im not using one of these all singing and dancing spec computers just an Intel 2600 which does me fine apart from the bloody noise.
It could be down to the case so if i get fed up tonight i shall put it all in another case, if that dont work sammys coming out. I want silence so any suggestions or info would be appreciated, not looking to build a super computer not wanting to spend a lot at this moment, just silence.
Before you say it..Put the base unit in another room or dont turn it on etc etc. >:( These are the things i would come up with.. I guess ive opened a can of worms to these suggestions so come on get it over with.... ;D ;D

mine is by no means silent, but quite quiet.
have a look at www.quietpc.com
I have a :
quiet case - Antex P180
quiet psu - Enermax noisetaker
quiet heatsink fan - Zalman copper flower
All made a big difference, not cheap though
Noisiet now is the graphics card, but not so bad I want to quieten it.

Would not do that spongebob.
There is a good second hand computer shop in Newport, just off Chepstow road, he seems pretty good and not expensive.
Leave it till tomorrow as I am going to see Mrs Miggys uncle, he was asking me 2 weeks ago if I wanted his old computer, if he still has it you are welcome to it, dont want anything for it. I cannot promise anything as he may have already got rid.

I think because this base is only a basic thing which i only bought as a complete system, I only wanted the monitor for my daughtern out of the package but 2 days before xmas her base unit went kaput so i had no choice but to give her mine as the monitor was part of a xmas pressy and i was left with this.
I couldnt take the base unit off her so she wins and im left to sit here with ear muffs on.
What if i wrap a sheep around the base unit would that help.. ;D ;D

mini mac is pretty quiet, but getting a bit long in the tooth. Was slow when it was released, really showing its age now.

Well ive been messing about with the computer..
Downloaded Speed Fan,,Configured it and cut the CPU fan speed in half.. Temperature is ok.
Changed the CPU cooler for the old one need some thermal compound now to try the Artic cooler again half the noise but no yet acceptable but getting there..
Hammer back in shed now... ;D
-
Why not take the fan out all together and keep the PC in the Fridge.
Noise and overheating problem all solved together. :y

What and take the beers out of fridge.. :o
I issue ear muffs to every visitor who i like and turn the noise up to those i dont.. ;D ;D ;D

it gets progressively more difficult (and more expensive) to eliminate noise the further you go. You start with hearing the power supply - change that for one with a big fan that runs slower (preferably variable speed) ... then the case fan(s), then you can end up hearing the processor fan noise, so you change that ... then you hear the graphics card fan - if not playing games you can get lower performance graphics cards that are fanless ... then you end up hearing the hard drives !!
however a low noise power supply (expect to pay £50+), case, CPU fans and a fanless graphics card will help a lot.
Mac minis also have a variable speed CPU fan - so are quiet when under no load, but get noisier if they are working hard ... they do have a fanless power supply though which helps :y

Most Intel based motherboards have temp controlled cpu fans, and temp controlled chassis fans (though any decent case should not require chassis fans).
AMD CPUs, Particularly Athlon XP and Athlon64 chips generate shit loads of heat.

This is a cheap Celeron 775 CPU with only 3 pin power...No cpu fan speed control thats why i have installed speedfan..
Seems to be working, slowed fan speed and noise down running at 28-31 working temp, have not tried a cpu hungry prog yet but will put up with it until i build a new base unit..
