Title: Smell of Petrol in car
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 31 July 2007, 18:22:14
When driving along in the Veccy down the motorway, I keep getting a whiff of petrol, whether running on petrol or GAS. I've checked all the unions, pipes, tank area, but can't see any obvious leaks.

Any ideas?  :-/

I had this once just after filling up. I opened the flap, put 493 gallons in paid the cashier who gave me 37 books of green shield stamps (if you are under 97 you won't remember them) and then went to get in the car. As I opened the dor all the petrol poured out. Silly me, I hat poured it in through the window instead of the petrol flap. Stupid or what. Anyway, I decided to have a fag and.........................................................................................................

I get it sometimes on my Omega.....i dont think im losing any petrol.....i had wondered if, as there are air vents in the spare wheel well (in case lpg escapes from the tank, its heavier than air so disapears out the vents) if petrol fumes from the petrol tank vent was getting sucked in thro these vents at speed?  :-/ Not that i know where the petrol tank vent is......but i assume its in the same area roughly....just a thought.

I've been averaging 95mph all the way to work for 70 miles, and scared stupid of Police catching me.

140mph .. I only did that once.. whilst I loved the Buzz... I wouldn't fancy the brush with the law, or the blow-out...  ::)

Do they still lock people up for speeds of that sort?  :-/

I'm sure the officials here will confirm, but I think it depends on circumstance. You may or may not get a custodial sentence, but will get a decent fine and in most cases, a significant ban.

My grandad used to drive at a standard cruising speed of 90+ regardless of conditions. A speed only slightly higher than his age at the time. He had cataracts and couldn't see a damn thing. Had to point out the imminent closure of the lane we were hurtling down on the M3 once  :o He voluntarily hung up his driving gloves shortly after that one.

Does the petrol fuel pump still run when it's on LPG?

Canister purge line connected to breather system correctly?

Cheers,

Kevin
