Title: Urgent Part needed
Post by: Jezzer on 07 May 2010, 11:50:11
Hi All
I need to get hold of a second hand 'Selector Lever Position Switch' for my 2.0 16v CDX Auto W Reg 2000.
It's the unit on the outside of the box on the drivers side and connects to the lever and a cable to the ECU?

Can anyone advise as VX want £272 + VAT  >:(
I'm in Tring, Herts?

Whats wrong with the old one?  They can often be opened up, cleaned and fixed.  sure we have a guide (check the index in my sig)

Told the old one is malfunctioning?
Gearbox stuck in 'limp/safe mode' tested on Tech2 and advisory to replace unit?  all other electrics and box OK. (I do trust the garage  ;))

Didn't realise that they can be overhauled, will give it a try first, thanks for the instructions and great pics.  :y

Wil let you know how I get on!

Just a thought, am I looking for anything in particular, apart from making sure its as clean as possible on the inner plates?
I know it seems like a dumb question!
Also, the Multi Meter.... I don have one, but my local garage has a Tech2, I assume they will know what top do?

Also make sure its adjusted right - you can have a good switch, but with poor adjustment.  Less likely if its never been adjusted before though...

Cheers Fellas, great advice as usual  :y
And who knows I may save at least £270 in the process!
Keep you informed.

Lastly, I assume that once I have repaired the switch and re-installed correctly that I will have to have the ECU Gearbox Fault cleared? or will it go automatically when the switch is operating correctly?

Have a good local garage for that, plus I have an Op.com on order which may do it also?

Best Regards
