Title: SSAFA POST
Post by: Tony H on 01 August 2007, 22:58:12
With regard  a recent post on here regarding a home from home for relatives of injured servicemen and the objections by neibours to this proposal, the local planning commitee have just passed the proposal. Thank god for the prevalence of common sense. The men and women in our armed forces are prepared to give the the ultimate sacrifice namely there life in support of what they believe in, the least they can expect is the full support of the people back home, especially when they return from a tour of duty injured. sometimes people need to think of others and not adopt such a NIMBY attitude

i have never served in the armed forces i wanted too but failed the medical when i was 18 i`ve got a bad left knee(old american football injury) but i have always had the upmost admeration for the men an women of our armed forces so i`m glad this has gone right for once you hear too many horror stories of the shit the families and personnel have to put up with..remember they fight for your freedom..buy your poppy and wear it with pride....

Hurrah, common sense prevailed then, that could be a first in a council's decision.

My son is in the forces, and I was livid when I heard this story today. Some people need to wake up and realise what is going on in the real world.

Great news. Will the NIMBYs stop at nothing?
With my father in law in the middle east at the moment, having a pretty rough time, by all accounts, I'm very glad.

Great News. I've only just heard, wasn't there over 50,000 names on the petition at Downing St.

Being an ex-veteran, I am glad that at last some council has taken a stance. As many posters on here have said it is about time.

Being a trained councellor working with 'broken' individuals from the services it is a very humbleing experiance. Also very fustrating trying to get outside help for the people.  The poppy appeal, a very good appeal, but there are others which help, the SSAFA being one of them not connected to the poppy appeal.

It is nothing like the 'pictures' it is a lot more sacry.

I had a client bivied back from Ireland, he had seen 4 of his best mates blown to smitterines in front of him when out on foot patrol in Northern Ireland. He was walking down one of his home town streets and some yooths let off a penny banger by him. He lept through a large privet hedge. They thought it very funny. But he took it in the way that most of us would have done given the circumstances, he went over and knocked ten bells of s**t out of them.

Sorry to have rambled on but it just helps some time to think of others.

Apparently none of the NIMBY's had the balls to turn up to the planning meeting.

its always ok to object to things all the time when the scariest thing going on in your life is walking past a "hoodie" on a shopping trip. try a trip to the gulf, n.ireland during the troubles or bosnia peacekeeping !!!
pleased it went through.

Spending most of my adult life serving, from Derry and Bosnia in the 80,s to Africa and the middle east in later years in I am well pleased to see this go through. Tis only a small part of the respect our returning servicemen and women deserve.

The NIMBY,s, and other ignorant and blind people like them have no right to form opinions on things they only have knowledge of through what the media had fed them.

The realities of the rose tinted media specs are far, far removed from anything they could imagine
