I have a 98 V6 3.0 ltr Ex plod engine.
While the engine is on the bench I decided to drain the oil and change the filter element :y
Had to work the drain plug to get it out, the thread is stressed also the filter bowl cap split when I tried to undo it, (15 Nm my backside).
I now need the parts to convert to a cartridge filter.
Anyone stripping an engine got one?

So the type in picture 1. what engines are they on.
Is that type less efficirnt then the spin on type?
-
I have only seen them on my 98 MV6's
The cap is suppose to be tightened to 15 Nm, when trying to release the overtightened cap the swivel stud in the base of the body starts to unscrew to the point that it is about 1 - 1 1/2 turns out, then it just spins. You then have oil p*ssing down the side of the engine and can't undo or do up the filter body.
Element is a paper concertina ring

I have a spare x30xe 3.0v6 engine with a leaky head gasket if you want any bits off of it

Thanks, but I have a good (ish) engine, just need to do a bit of work prior to fitting again.

they are only about £6 from a dealer, bought one last week
studlock was a couple of quid in halfords

Generally, paper type from MY1999.
Paper type has larger surface area, probably helpful for longer service intervals.
Spin on type cheaper, often not airgunned up to 2,000,000Nm but some useless garage either...

the top cap split in two before it even thought of unscrewing >:(
