Hi, as I can't post in the spares section yet I wonder if this could be placed there please.
Just recently I have been finding the key won't turn in the barrel, have given it a spray but that hasn't eased the problem. There may be a quick fix but I don't know it so I would like to buy if anyone has the part.
The car is P reg, 2.5 Auto, unsure if that makes a difference.
Are they simple to change?
Thanks in advance

If I can source a facelift set of 2 keys, barrel, electric boot opener etc (hint, hint) then my mate will probably be happy to part with his set currently in the car. Only one key, though.
-
Cheers BDG, I will keep checking by for updates
appreciated.

Sounds ok to me tho I only need the ignitions stuff, or am I wrong here? Do I need to replace the lot because its electronic?
Sorry for being a lemon but I just drive the car, won't be getting rid of it til it dies so not bothered about having put up with using different keys. Although I didn't think the boot had a lock, does the central locking not deal with that?
Questions questions, sorry. I do appreciate the help tho, in fact when the car dies I will offer it to anyone who can collect, seems like so many people need bits and peices for their Omegas.

Cheers for the heads up brikhead, (though am I right in saying that an estate pushlock can't be put into a saloons bootlid plus estate omegas dont have electric opening bums, do they?)
-
I've got a saloon set with 2 keys :y

Well that sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, how would I go about getting them from you, how much are you wanting for them?
Are they easy to change or is it a garage job, special tools etc?

Moderately easy, I'll do you a list of each and how to do them, I may even write them up on here ;) I'll drop you a PM :y
-

No, no need to replace the lot if your not bothered by having more than one key.
My facelift (later generation) estate has a key hole on the boot, also my pre facelift (earlier generation) saloon had one too.
I'm guessing facelift saloons don't have keyholes!!

Nah Mate, no button on the dash to open the boot in this estate... only get two buttons on the fob too...
:y

That's an idea, perhaps I should do one... "How To dismantle an Omega into pieces small enough to fit into the boot of a Vectra".
Did you find a door handle yet? Also, has your Mate still got those Vectra CDX alloys knocking about?

No not yet mate. I've got a couple of sets of wheels here, what do you want them for (car I mean, I know what you want them for ;D ;D)?

Cheers Brikhead, there is no keyhole in the drivers door, never noticed one in the bootlid but either way it all works via the fob on the keyring(2 buttons), in fact the only problem door is the front nearside, intermittently doesn't unlock with the fob thing.
I'm assuming I can replace the ignition barrel (or someone can) and keep the fob I already have in order to lock and unlock the car. Or maybe the key and the button thing have to be married up in some way, does the key have some built in device?
Does my head in all this because in an ideal world I would just stick it in the garage and get them to sort it, these days I don't have the money to do that so I have to have a go at DIY, not my forte, although I will always have a go if I can.
cheers

Forgot to say I think I am sorted with the goods via wellung, thanks again for the help.

Another PM on it's way :y

Not going to hijack NM42's thread, if he's sorted for keys etc, then, and only then if there's any more out there for cheap money (dont mind about things like iffy batteries, even grotty looking keys buttons not a problem) then all the better!
But Mr. NW42 must have first dibs! :)

Is it key fobs or a lock set you're after?
-
AH, sorry, thought everyone had the dubious pleasure of reading the thread from a few days previous!!
The list- Full lock set (though solenoids arent 'coded' or vehicle specific, are they, so not required) two keys, door lock, ignition barrel and required ecu etc, and facelift leccy bootlid opening mechanism.
-
I've got the leccy boot mechanism from a facelift saloon if that's any help?

cheers pal, proper gent. :y
Decent place this, almost wishing I was an enthusiast rather than only being here because I want summat.
In saying that, I have nothing but good things to say about the car, best all rounder I've ever had, drinks more than me around town but decent on a motorway run, comfy drive, always starts(when the key turns), got plenty on the kickdown etc etc. I would never shy away from having another based on my experience with this one.
Who knows I may become an enthusiast after all, some leather seats would be a nice touch, do they come cheap?
-
Leather sets can come quite cheaply, you've got to know what you're looking for though because of airbags etc. :y

Airbags :exclamation, cheers for that, I think I'll stick at the barrel and keys for now.
-
...there is no keyhole in the drivers door...
Really? Seems strange? How would you get into the car if your keyfob batteries died?

I'd sell the key blade with the ignition, drivers door, boot and glovebox barrels as a set.
The chips from the keys would be sold with the engine e.c.u. and the 'pickup' from around the ignition barrel.
The key fobs go with the central locking unit located down in the drivers footwell.

CHeers Welung, you're always there for me! If Im honest Im going to say no, for now, as its probably going to be more practical to get the whole lot from one person - however - you're name has been put on the shortlist, so may well be contacting you again in the future, yet!
And to NW newbie, yeah, this is a great place. Just wanted to make the point that I wasnt trying to get in there ahead for you. Didnt want anyone thinking Im using my 600-odd posts to carry any weight, as it were, as if Im 'more reliable' or something because I have more posts that you, if you follow!
There's no great rush for the lock set, as soon as a set at a sillycheap price comes up, then I'll be there 8-)
And keep looking our in for salewanted, leather interiors are always coming up, varying prices, if you want black thats deeead easy to find. :y

Apologies Brikhead ::), just been out and checked, it does have a keyhole, key doesn't work in it though. Only ever used the buttons to lock or unlock it.

I know what you mean, I haven't proved myself here yet, well I have but only as an unobservant character (of course there is a keyhole).
I will bow to your 600 posts and just hope to pick up the scraps from your table. Who knows if I start having plenty of problems with the car I may overhaul you.
In the meantime cheers for the warm welcome.

...key doesn't work in it though.
Chances are the lock is just seized through lack of use, as you say most people never use them, why would you when all you need to do is press a button?
Try some oil (dare I say 'WD-40'!?) in the lock and turn/jiggle the key until you think it's going to snap...

Well thanks for the advice but I think I'm sorted with wellung, having a ride out to the black country at the weekend.
Really appreciate the help on here, thank you. Does the place rely on donations/contributions to keep it going? Happy to throw a bit in the pot if it helps.

Just want to give a big thanks to Wellung for sorting my car on Sunday, very much appreciated mate. Really nice place this is, thanks to anyone else for the advice.
I only found the cd changer in the boot the other week, doesn't seem to work so I may be in the market for one of them soon, although it may be better to just replace the unit on the dash for one with a cd player.
