Title: Wanted Duff Power sounders
Post by: Ken T on 22 February 2011, 23:24:45
That's right folks, money for your old power sounders.
I want to get to the bottom of this, why they are causing the fire in the engine bay.

So I am after a couple of sounders, the older the better !.

Please PM me if you got one you want to get rid of.

Cheers Ken

Would a '95 Elite have one, and where would it be hiding?

I have a 97 elite. Never heard it go but no reason to suspect it. It could be yours.

I've got one from a '99 that I've removed. It was working ok and showing no signs of leaking at all.

PM me if interested

Where is it and what does it look like - guessing none of mine have one cos I reckon it should be obvious!

I can send you mine if you want it ken. I removed it about 6 months ago (2000 facelift) as it was giving the 4 warning beeps. I opened it up and afair the batteries looked like they had just started leaking.
PM me your details if you want it.

Thanks for the replies and offers. There seems a good cross section available. I'll work out some sort of test plan  to work out how many would be needed.

Albs's leaking one will be interesting, it sounds like one that is heading towards trouble. Was it Jimbob who pulled his out just as it was about to go up in smoke ?. It would be good to get that one.

Thanks,

Ken

Sorry, the acrid smell of ours got in my throat whenever I went in the garage so consigned it to the tip :'(

Thats a shame but never mind, I'm sure there are plenty more in the scrapyards.

I've been doing a whole load of stuff on the enigine in my '99 MV6 (cam cover gaskets, breathers, thermostat, aux drive belt, etc., etc.) and I had the battery out and on charge during this - it's been sitting a while waiting on these jobs being done.

Anyway, on reconnecting the battery, I noticed a buzzing sound that I quickly traced to the power sounder.

Is this a sign of a dud or impending failure?
