Please feel free to add your choices - I'm looking for a sub £200 camcorder suitable for taking better images of my family than my chepo DV Cam.
NEXT have one on offer at £175 for a Panasonic NGS37EB - was £375 in Mini DV format. So that's the starter for 10, it has 30x zoom, pure colour engine, editing software and colour night view but that's about it.
Recommendations please............ [smiley=dankk2.gif]

yeah, don't bother, and stop spending your hols behind a lens.
we managed childhood without camcorders.....
;)

I bought a DV cam for Skiing before the inclusion of streaming images on cameras with sound - it helped show my missus I wasn't making it up as I offered advice on how not to fall over ;)
I only seem to take video clips of the kids on my mobile now and quality is crap but don't want to spend a fortune for now and again footage, sports days etc.
Also tbh I took loads of vids of my first born 11 years ago and have hardly any of the latest edition 15m old.
TB You also managed childhood without DVD's, Computers and a Tech 2 - what did you do all day ::)

Entertained myself in ways not allowed now - playing footie in the park, riding my Raleigh Chopper around for miles without parents, and throwing airbomb repeater in old ladies' metal dustbins on November 5th....

Too right. But I didn't always manage to escape the all seeing eye of Dad's Standard 8 though.
Hence miles of footage of me in nappies and Mum in a miniskirt ::)

Mini DV or if you have a HiDef TV HDV
Mini DV/DV is the best PQ home SDTV format, Sony, Canon, Panasonic are all generally good.
I am a believer in compress final material not while filming, hence my dislike of DVD cameras and HDD cameras.
Hi8 is difficult to get onto a PC, so producing a DVD is not so easy.
Editing - this does not have to be full blown, chopping of wobbly bits and putting basic titles on is quick and greatly improves the end result

So the Panasonic Mini DV with editing software at £175 wasn't a bad buy. :-/
Never mind - sold out now anyway :'(
Saved me £175 for now though :y

I have 5 camcorders including a Sony VX9000, Sony VX 2100, Canon XM1 (all 3ccd) and a couple of cheapies. I also have a full Canopus DV editing suite. Just a hobby.

I've got a Sony HVC4000P with SL-F1UB - beat that for age, and the portable still works!
