Title: I failed at the scrap yard for these....
Post by: Psychoca on 31 May 2011, 15:44:45
I tried to get the following from 3 different scrap yards in Peterborough...  The 1st I went to only had about 10 cars, (only 1 Vauxhall, 1 Audi, 1 Citreon, 1 Fiat, NO Ford's) and a shedload of cars that looked as though they were going to repair!!!  The next I went to was in the process of closing down and only had 3 cars..  The final one I went to, had a good number of cars, but, They don't let people have just nuts and bolts (I seriously have never heard anything like it with a scrap yard!!!)... So....

I need a starter motor bolt, E16 head and 65mm thread length and 2 inlet manifold nuts (I dropped them putting them back on and lost the in the dark side of the engine... :s

They probably saw the size of your poachers pockets!

I had a similar experience at a Spanish Scrapyard. Just a counter in an airconditioned room. What do you want? No haven't got it. A chnage from the last time I was at a scrapyard and got locked in for the night whilst removing a rear spring off a Wolsey 16/60  ;D

Are these bolts you are after the same ona 2.5 petrol?

I would have thought that the Starter Motor ones would be, not sure about the intake manifold nuts (I just know they need a 12mm socket... lol...)  Thanks...

I've got a spare bolt from my donor car with an E16 head, the threaded part is 65mm but the total length of the bolt is approx 125mm excluding the head so don't know if that is any good for you

You should be able to source these nuts and the bolt from a local engineering hardware outlet ........

From memory:
The bolt is an M10 thread and may be supplied with a 17mm head
Nuts are M8 "flanged" and could be satisfactorily substituted with "standard" M8 nuts with the addition of flat/spring washers under each one.

Done this meself a while back! :y

Apologies for delays getting back to this post, I have had other things on my mind... :-/

@Sethsmate, sounds a good idea, to push the bolt head away from the gearbox...  Will try that if necessary...

@Hannah Jules Dad, Thanks, but, I am guessing that there is a reasonable length of unthreaded bolt before the head, (although if I can get hold of a die I could always extend the thread)...
